CHEERLEADING ISN'T THE SPORT FOR A GIRL WITH SELF-IMAGE ISSUES. The short skirts and crop tops that expose far too much of her body for comfort. The blinding field lights shone down on her like a spotlight. She was surrounded by everything she hated and desired to be. Pretty, skinny white girls with dazzling smiles, pretty blue eyes, and zero body fat.

Maya had convinced Kadence to go to the Kim house party, to keep up appearances. It was a party meant for the sports teams and that included the cheerleaders. Being the captain of the cheer squad meant that it was almost required, expected, of her to be there.

That's why she was standing here, outside of Taehyung's two-story house. His parents were away for the weekend and of course, it would be just like a teenaged boy to throw a party in their absence. Kadence pulled her baby blue cardigan tighter around herself. It was the only thing covering the tight, bodycon dress she was wearing. Maya had chosen it out for her, of course, she did.

Kadence was barely able to stand on her own two feet. Majority of her diet consisted of only appetite suppressants, along with apples and a granola bar. In her spare time, she worked out in her room, desperately trying to burn off calories.

Over the years, Kadence has found other natural appetite suppressants. She found that drinking a lot of water helped and chewing gum was good at stimulating her brain, tricking it into believing she was eating.

The moment she entered the house, she hated it. The dimly lit room was filled with jocks. Football, basketball, and soccer players. There were a few cheerleaders sprinkled throughout the swarm of men. Beside the door was a table full of plastic cups for people to take on their way in.

Kadence quickly turned away from the table, weaving her way through the crowded bodies trying to find a place to sit and never move from. Hopefully, she could find Maya or Jayden somewhere in all this mess, but it was unlikely. There was no one she was just gonna sit around all night for her. She liked partying, drinking, finding a pretty boy to spend the night with.

Kadence felt severely out of place here. With the blinking lights combined with the starvation she was going through, everything was disorienting and she had only just got here. She managed to migrate towards the living room where people lounge out on the two unnecessarily large couches. Most people she didn't know, others she could identify as members of the cheer squad nestled comfortably between friends and on the laps of their boyfriends.

She saw the basketball player who had rated her an 8/10 on her looks and the football player who placed her on the "best fuck" list in sophomore year after she made the horrible mistake of letting him course his way into her pants. To which Jayden began to hit on her, maybe to see if the rumor was true.

Kadence continued to wander and soon, maybe subconsciously, moved into the kitchen. There were fewer people there, most just pouring themselves a drink or eating some of the food that was set out. She turned away, trying to focus on the food only a mere few feet away from her. Instead, her eyes searched for anyone she knew. She was greeted by a few strangers who happened to know her, but the only person she recognized was the fluffy-haired Jungkook pouring himself a drink.
