My hands are full as I drag all the supplies through the door at once with Oreo walking right behind me. I'm carrying the litter box, litter, food bag, and treats. It was almost impossible to unlock the door. Oreo ran past me and instantly ran to my bed. Well it's not my bed anymore obviously. I set down the litter and litter box next to the door and walk to my kitchen. Opening a cabinet the food was set in one of the lower cabinets. Walking back to the door I grab the litter box and litter. Setting the litter box in the corner of the room so that not everyone has to see it, even though it doesn't matter. The litter shouldn't smell so I don't have to worry about that.
Walking over to my bed my eyes rest upon my new best friend. I flopped onto my bed face down and Oreo decided I'm a good chair so he sat on my back. "Hi Oreo, how do you like your new home?" Am I becoming a crazy cat lady? Probably. Character development. My eyes closed but my mind couldn't fall asleep. Everything was warm, especially my back. Since Oreo was, I assume asleep. That was until some loud cars came speeding by, since my apartment was facing the road it always gets all of the noise. Poor Oreo got scared so he jumped off the bed probably wanting to explore more since he went straight to my bed.
Sitting up my mind started to go to what Niki told me. More street racing? Is that a bad habit I'm going to pick up again. Even though going to jail isn't too bad, where I used to live there were a lot of gangs and not good people that I would race against. Which didn't just put me in danger, it also put people that know me in danger. My old mechanic was the best of friends, but they got them. A local gang killed him after I won a race. A race that was going to give hella cash, they wanted the reward money to set free their boss who had recently been arrested. After winning that race and went home my phone rang. It was the local hospital saying that I was his emergency contact. His family hated him, I was the only one that showed up to his funeral. I knew I was next, so that's why I decided to leave. It was too late for him, but not for me. We always talked about moving here and moving in together, but now it's only me. I would be lying if I said I didn't love him. But he's gone.
My eyes started to kinda tear up thinking of him. I miss him a lot. He died because of me. Because of our stupid love for cars. I stood up and walked over to my kitchen to see Oreo sitting in the sink. This made me feel a little better. See now I'm not all lonely. Lets see, I've got Oreo, Niki and um ya plenty of more. Well by my defense I moved here three months ago.
Let's stop talking about this depressing stuff and um what should we do. "Oreo what do you want," the cat just looked up at me. Oh yeah he's a cat he won't answer me. "Your name is Oreo and Oreos are cookies. I've come to the conclusion we should make cookies," my finger pointed into the as if it was a declaration.
Going pantry to pantry I pull out ingredients such as eggs, butter, flour, baking soda, brown and white sugar, and cornstarch. This is my favorite chocolate chip recipe and it's what I use every time. All of the ingredients were laid out on the counter, but one. And it's the most important ingredient of all. The chocolate chips. How could I be so stupid? I decide to make cookies and I don't have all of the ingredients. Well lucky me there is a grocery store right across the street. "Hey Oreo, want to come to the grocery store with me?," the cat just meowed as a response. Oreo stood up from his lying position and stretched his back, then hopped off the counter and started to walk next to me. I opened the door just to close it right after locking it once Oreo was out. Instead of running halls like usual I take my time to make sure that Oreo would stay with me. Even though he's only been here for a day he's followed me around the whole time. So this gives him my trust for coming with me.
"Ok so Oreo, our plan is to get chocolate chips and try not to get carried away with the energy drinks" energy drinks are always my downfall. I'm legit addicted to them. Especially Monsters. If we are getting into even more specifics, the white one. I mean come on who could not like them. It's what I drink when there are 5 projects due tomorrow and have to pull an all nighter. Having a 24 hour grocery store right across the street from your house is very helpful. Especially if they are in college and are broke.
I used to be pretty wealthy where I used to live, but with the moving and college fees it took a toll. But with my job I'm still able to live comfortably. Pushing open the door light floods into the entrance of the apartment complex. My eyes squint at the sudden amount of light. Looking down at Oreo it also looks like he's squinting. Honestly I didn't even know that light affected their eyes that much. "So Oreo we are going to cross the street and you are going to have to stay right next to me and stay on the crosswalk" my voice speaks to the cat as we make it to the sidewalk. I press the button and it tells us to wait, eventually all the cars stop flying by and the little guy on the side is walking with a timer.
Hesitantly I start walking across the street and see Oreo right behind me. Thank god, honestly it scared me just a little bit having Oreo cross the street. What if he just randomly decided "Hey I'm not going to follow (Y/n) anymore" and just walked off. Me and Oreo finished crossing the street and that brought both of us to the entrance of the grocery store. Honestly it's quite strange, the outside of the store looks like a gas station. Even though the first few isles are just gas station snacks, that is just a hoax. The further you go in you see all of the items way more than what a normal grocery store would have. I mean what grocery store would have 20 different kinds of microwavable ramen? Or broccoli imported from Germany? It's strange since this is the only store that sells that kind of broccoli.
Me and Oreo walked through the automatic doors to come face to face with the gas station section of the store. The place smelled like hot dogs and cheese, which would make sense since behind the counter there is a hotdog machine and a whole bunch of what looks like nachos. Looking at the counter for a couple of more seconds I realize the boy behind the counter is drum roll please, Alex.
"Hey Alex, didn't know you worked today," my comment directs to the beanie wearing boy. He turns around and his once blank expression turns into a small smile.
"Oh yeah I've decided to take more hours since this weekend I'm gonna play poker this weekend. So what brings you here?" Alex says whilst leaning his elbows on the clear spot where groceries go.
"Oh you know, forgetting chocolate chips for chocolate chip cookies. To make it worse I've already got the normal cookie dough done," honestly it's kinda sad how I forget the main ingredient. It's legit in the name! But they will still be good in the end.
"How the hell do you forget chocolate chips, it's in the name," He giggled a little at my stupid mistake. A small meow came from behind me and Alex turned his head. "What the fuck is that," he said pointing behind me.
A small gasp is heard from my mouth, "Oh yeah do you like my cat." Oreo jumped up into my arms and I brought him next to my counter still in my arms. Now me and Alex are only a counter apart and he brings his arm out to pet the cat. The second his hand reached Oreo's fur coat you could see that he became less tense.
"I've got a cat at home and he is nowhere near as chill as yours," Quackity said, still petting Oreo.
"I bet your cat is just a big softie and he hasn't warmed up to you yet," the words escaped my lips right before the cat jumped out of my hands. Looking back up at Alex you could see his mood change from a bored looking expression that he has on right before I came in. "Give me a few minutes and I will be back. You can still hang out with Oreo. I just need to grab the chocolate chips," I said right before I turned away.
Walking down another few isles the baking aisle finally came up. There were many boxed cakes and a lot of different decorations at the beginning of the aisle. At the end it was just more baking stuff but more of a variety. Such as muffins (There is a single box left. I wonder who has been buying all of them?), cookie supplies, brownie supplies and way more.
After walking for not even a minute I'm at the other end of the aisle, there are so many chocolate options. How could anyone decide? Looking from bottom to top only one kind of chocolate chip caught my eye. It has white chocolate chips, dark chocolate chips and milk chocolate chips all in the same bag. That's for sure what I'm getting. But there is a slight problem, it's on the top shelf. And guess who can't reach it, this person. Alex is too short to reach the shelf and I know he doesn't have a stool because there was a similar incident.
