After I placed the deep purple Dior dress on my body I took a moment to take myself in.
I looked amazing.
It had a sweet heart neckline with little crystal embellishments across the neck line. It flowed down my legs and had a little trail of chiffon following me when I moved since it was a little long.
"Eat your heart out." I said out loud to myself.
I grabbed silver stilettos which made the dress less long and I could walk without tripping. With that I added diamond earrings and headed downstairs.
By the time I was on the first landing of the staircase, I could see that the party was in full swing.
Women and Men in their full party gowns and tuxes. Gina was chatting away with my father and another couple.
Gina looked up and saw me standing on the landing and headed towards me with a smile. She held up a part of her dress so she wouldn't trip. It was a beautiful dark green. When she reached me she gave each of my cheeks a kiss and then turned to the crowd and addressed them.
"Everyone! This is my step-daughter Diana."
Everyone smiled and clapped for me. I just stood there and smiled and then made my way down the stairs. "Join the party." Gina said with a little nudge.
I walked into the crowd and began a conversation with a Professor from Pacific Lutheran University.
I asked the professor many questions since I was interested in that school.
My father found me somehow in this chaos and pulled me towards another couple to talk to. Turns out this couple was from University of Washington as recruits. Another place I was looking at.
"You look stunning as always Diana." My dad said before we reached the the couple.
"Thanks, Dad. This party is incredible. All I thought that I had to wear was nice jeans and a nice shirt not Dior." I laughed.
My dad, however didn't get my drift.
"Diana..." he started.
"Oh look a piano." I sighed.
It was a black Yamaha grand piano. It was on an elevated like stage. Begging me to come and play its ivory keys.
Flashback
I played the last notes of "Song Without Words". I held my back straight and then stood up and faced the crowd of Carnegie Hall. I curtsied to the audience and then walked off stage. I could tell that it was early nineteen hundreds from the style of clothing.
Adam was waiting for me off stage holding a bouquet of white roses.
"Oh, darling. You didn't need to do this." I said as he handed me them.
He just smiled at me before he placed a hand on small of my back and kissed me on the cheek.
End of Flashback
"Dinner is served." I heard my dad say as I came back to reality.
I watched as everyone took their place at the table while I stood there contemplating whether or not I should sit or run.
I saw Emily sitting next to her mother and decided to head that safe area.
But before I could even take step that way someone took my hand and guided me toward a seat with my name card.
I look up to see Adam's piercing eyes looking into mine.
"Need help?" he smirked.
I can only nod.
