A hidden love

Maddie's POV:

I woke to my mother calling my name today was just like any other day except today would change everything. My mom wasn't one to trust people so its just been her and I for the most part. Don't get me wrong I love my mom she's my best friend I just wished she wasn't so tense and protective over me sometimes.

"Maddie come on love you don't wanna be late on your first day do you?" I heard my mom yell from downstairs

"Coming mom" I yelled back looking at myself in the mirror one last time

Today was my first day of work at the BAU I was gonna be working with my mom and I was excited, but I was also about to meet my moms coworkers and friends. None of them knew I existed not because my mom didn't want them too but she was scared someone would find me and use me to hurt her. She decided now is the time to tell them because I finished college and I just turned 18 last week.

When I got downstairs I found my mom sitting at the table staring at the wall. I knew she was nervous but seeing her like this worried me my moms been through a lot and she always made sure to keep me safe but I think she realized when were out in the field working together she cant protect me anymore.

"Hey mom you okay" I asked her putting my hand on her shoulder

"Yeah honey im fine" she said giving me a small smile while we ate breakfast

"Are you ready?" she asked once we were finished

"Yeah I think so"

Emily's POV:

I was so nervous to get to work today not only was it my baby girls first day of work but I had to tell my whole team and my best friends who became family that I have been keeping a huge secret from them. Maddie was very smart for her age and I am so proud of her she graduated high school at 14 and college at 18. I feel as though her and Spencer are either going to get along great or fight about everything. We finally got to the BAU and I knew in the next few minutes everything could either go great or horribly wrong. I could tell Maddie was nervous so I grabbed her hand and smiled at her.

"Its gonna be great love I am so proud of you"

"Thanks mom... do you think they are gonna like me"

"They're gonna love you"

As we stepped off the elevator we were greeted by JJ and Spencer.

"Hey Em who's this" JJ asked

"This is Maddie she's our newest profiler."

"Its nice to meet you" Maddie said shaking both of their hands

"How old are you, you look very young" JJ asked

"Oh actually im 18"

"18? How?" Reid asked 

"Well I graduated high school at 14 and then recently graduated college"

"Wow Spence looks like you got some competition" JJ told him 

Maddie's POV:

All of a sudden I wasn't so nervous something about JJ's eyes made me feel calm. We all walked into the bullpen together and instantly Hotch told us to get to the conference room. When we got in there everyone sat down and I took a seat between my mom and JJ once the rest of the team got to the conference room Hotch stood up.

"Everyone this is our new profiler Maddie Prentiss."

 "Prentiss?" Morgan asked

Suddenly everyone was looking at me and my mom I struggle with anxiety so when everyone was staring I started to get very nervous and I think everyone could tell. mom stood up and put a hand on my shoulder and smiled at me.

"Maddie is my daughter, I was always scared that anyone trying to hurt me would hurt her so I just always kept her a secret in order to keep her safe. I'm sorry for not telling any of you I hope you can forgive me."

"Emily we understand you have to keep your family safe at all costs." Penelope told her

"Alright everyone as much as I'm sure you would all love to keep talking about this we do have a case" Hotch interrupted

Penelope presented the case and Hotch told us wheels up in 30. I walked with my mom to my desk and grabbed out go bags and headed to the plane I sat next to her with JJ and Derek across from us. Derek from time to time would look at me and say something to try and make me blush and even though it never worked each time mom would yell at him or JJ would hit him and that would make me laugh.

"Alright everyone were here but its pretty late so I want everyone to go straight to the hotel and get a good nights sleep I will see you all at 8 tomorrow morning" Hotch told us

When we got to the hotel everyone was given their room keys and I was to share a room with JJ. Mom made sure I was okay and when I told her I would be fine she kissed my forehead and headed to her room while JJ and I went to ours. 

"Do you wanna watch a movie?" JJ asked me

"Uh sure I'm just gonna go shower real quick" I told her 

While showering I kept thinking about how I kinda wished I had been put in a room by myself or even with my mom but hopefully this would give me a chance to make a friend and get closer with JJ since we'll be working together.
