"Okay, let's go children." Leon claps his hands together at his group of friends, ushering them out the door. Some could say he's the dad of the group, living up to his title of the oldest.
Scott and Alec walk out first, nudging into each other's shoulders as they talk about football and unimportant things. Nevaeh and Arden are next to leave. He absentmindedly wraps an arm around his tired girlfriend, smiling down at her as she yawns. Leon smiles at the four, happy that they're happy.
However, a frown makes its way onto his face when the last two walk out. Shay leaves the house with an eye roll in his baby brother's direction and Freedom follows suit with her own brother. Leon knows how stupid the situation is, everyone does. The two like each other but are too scared to pursue it, or more like a certain boy is hiding behind the fear of his best friend's possibly negative reaction, despite their conversation a couple weeks ago. He's hiding behind the guise of being scared of Arden's opinion. In reality, he doesn't want to fuck anything up in case things don't work out.
Now they're stuck in a cycle of longing and envy. Freedom is trying her hardest to be happy for her twin and her best friend but she's finding it hard to do so with her own love life stuck on pause. Whilst Shay is becoming more irritable, his annoyance mostly directed at Scott and Alec's close friendship. He loves Scott and he loves Alec but he can't help but dislike their relationship. He knows he'll get over it at some point but for now he's perfectly content with not liking his brother and best friend within any radius of each other.
Leon wraps his arm around Freedom's shoulders comfortingly. "Don't look so excited guys," he comments sarcastically. Freedom peers up at the taller, smiling at the previous gesture. He squeezes the smaller as he shuts the door behind him, the keypad automatically locking it, as they walk down the steps of the porch.
Nevaeh places her Celine sunglasses on her nose as she pulls her hood over her head. "I would just like everyone to know that I'm sleeping the whole way to the airport so nobody speak to me. No texts, nothing," Nevaeh announces as she slots herself into one of the black Mercedes Benz waiting for them. Freedom chuckles, nodding in her direction silently agreeing with Nevaeh. "What she said," Freedom voices, getting in beside her.
The rest of the teenagers get into their designated cars before their drivers leave the estate, en route to the airport.
In one car, the girls are passed out, resting against each other with Alec in tow. In the other, Scott is dosing off along with Shay, both slouching in their seats with their arms folded. Leon is mindlessly scrolling through social media, rolling his eyes when he sees all too familiar names in his DMs. He doesn't hesitate before deleting all of them. Now they want to apologise, when I'm across the ocean. It's almost laughable. Almost.
Arden, as clingy as it may be, is scrolling through Nevaeh's Instagram posts, getting distracted by her comments.
He can't be mad at the love in the comments because her newest post is one of his favourites. Her current hair just does something to him. However, his jaw is still locked in frustration at all the thirsty boys, girls and theys. Some of the comments are humorous but some are just straight aggravating. If it was up to him he would've told everyone they were dating the day she said yes, but Nevaeh wants at least a month for them to get their shit together. It doesn't sound like a lot but she thought and still thinks it's enough time for them to be 'solid' enough to deal with outside opinions, hence why they haven't even told their closest friends. Though their displays of affection don't leave much secrecy. Nevaeh wants them to build a proper foundation before anyone has a chance to even put a dent in it.
Arden groans aloud as he shuts his phone off, shoving it into his pocket. Leon glances over, pulled out of his trance of his toxic 'friends', their recent behaviour making him question whether they ever deserved that title in the first place.
"I don't know how much more of this I can take. Her comments are brutal. Some people just have no filter." Leon chuckles at the stressed boy who's moments away from pulling out a lock of hair. "Yeah, they've never just been pg-13. If you think about it though, you get the same type of comments, we all do, and she's not losing her head." Leon grins at the glare Arden throws his way. "Well during this past month I've learned that I lose all rationality when it comes to that girl." At this Leon's grin grows impossibly wider. This is the relationship that my cousin deserves.
"The more I look at her, the more I fall for her, so I hate that other people are looking at her with similar thoughts." Arden confesses. Immediately, all fatigue is washed away as Scott twists around in the passenger's seat to look at his best friend. Shay also perks up as he pops one eye open.
"You're what?" Scott exclaims.
"Fuck," Arden curses under his breath.
The three boys start laughing at the sight of Arden's rosy cheeks. "Come on man, it's not like we didn't already know. You've basically been in love with her since you were like fifteen." Arden rolls his eyes at Shay's words. "And now you're falling for each other," Leon finishes, smiling proudly.
The boys simultaneously raise their eyebrows at the grimace on Arden's face. "Have you told her?" Shay questions. A smile tugs at the corner of his lips. He says a lot of things to Nevaeh.
So consumed by the topic at hand, it takes the boys a moment to realise they've reached the airport. The car slows down a good distance from the Fischers' private jet, Nevaeh's dad's attempt at an apology for his words and behaviour, parking alongside the car the other three are in.
"I don't know how to." "Well, I don't know what to tell you mate. It's probably pretty obvious how you feel about her anyway. It's also understandable if she hasn't fallen as hard as you yet," Shay says as he stretches his arms out, stiff from his slouched position. Arden rolls his eyes. "Yeah, just give her time," Scott agrees before he gets out of the car. He nods along in agreement, but he doesn't know how long he can refrain from publicly smothering her with affection.
"Hi baby," he chuckles quietly, the urge overwhelming him as Nevaeh walks right into his open arms. She buries her head in Arden's chest, too tired to bother about hiding their new closeness.
"Did you miss me that much?" Arden teases, putting his arm around his girlfriend as they are escorted to the plane with their friends. When Nevaeh doesn't answer Freedom speaks up from behind the two. "She had cramps all morning, so she's only been asleep for like three hours." His mouth forms an 'O' in understanding.
"I'm going to go sleep in the bedroom, will you come cuddle me?" Nevaeh mumbles into Arden's neck. Arden doesn't hold back the smile that makes its way onto his face.
"Anything for my girl."
