As Eunjung suspected, the minute she set foot in her dorm room, she was bombarded with questions. Seoyeon was standing on top of their fuzzy white rug, hands on her hips, glaring at Eunjung as she questioned,
"Choi Eunjung, in the whole time I've lived with you, you have never gone anywhere for a WHOLE NIGHT by yourself! You weren't answering your phone either, I seriously thought you got kidnapped and I was going to call the police if you didn't show up-"
Eunjung held up both hands in defense and said, "Seo, I can explain! I had to stay over at a boy from our uni's apartment because-"
"YOU SLEPT WITH A BOY LAST NIGHT?!?!?"
"NO, listen to the full story!! Well, I did sleep in his house but I didn't sleep with him! Basically, this all started when I got a phone call last night..."
Eunjung recounted the events of the previous night, watching Seoyeon's face fall and turn into worry about her parents leaving Eunjung to fend for herself. When she got to the part where she got drunk and spilled all of this to a random boy, who was not just a stranger but a sunbae at the uni who she addressed informally, Seoyeon smirked at her.
"Damn Choi Eunjung, you were always so quiet around boys, I see that liquid courage got you acting up!"
Eunjung rolled her eyes and finished the rest of the story, explaining in detail of how she was unable to take herself back to the dorm last night. There was a few seconds of silence as Seoyeon tried to organize all this information in her head.
"Ok, you've been through a lot last night, bestie. So why are you packing up to go to class? You need to skip today, no way will you be able to focus with everything that has happened!"
"No, I don't have a choice: I have to go; if I don't study well now, I'll lose my chances to get a scholarship and remain in college. I have to think of money now since I'm on my own..." Eunjung trailed off with a conflicted look in her eyes. Seoyeon sighed.
"I still can't believe your parents would just abandon you like that. Some parents they are. Fine, if you're going to school, you're sticking with me the whole day." Eunjung smiled gratefully at her friend and nodded. "Ok, let's get going."
Eunjung and Seoyeon, linking arms, walked to the front of Eunjung's 1st class, biology. "Go to your class now, I'll be fine", Eunjung whispered. They were already late, the class had started 15 minutes ago. Seoyeon sighed and squeezed Eunjung's hand.
"Promise to call me if anything happens, or if you feel tired. I'll come find you." Eunjung nodded and waved, stepping quietly inside the classroom. Seoyeon stared sadly after her friend. "Aish, I'm so worried about Eun. What do I do with this girl... she is so stubborn."
Eunjung felt eyes on her back as she slipped into an empty seat, earning a disapproving stare from her professor. Her heart pounded out of control; she hated situations where she drew a lot of attention.
The professor turned around and continued on with the lecture. Eunjung tuned out the monotonous drone of the instructor and spaced out. Her thoughts landed on the sunbae from last night, Doyoung.
I wonder if we'll meet again soon. Although I am always flustered whenever I see him ... why can't I act normal in front of him... ugh.
She drifted off to sleep, his face in her mind. Several minutes later, someone tapped her arm and Eunjung snapped awake and lifted her head.
"Eunjung-ah, class is over .. i noticed you fell asleep so I came over to wake you up."
Eunjung looked in the direction of the voice and blinked rapidly. Doyoung stood in front of her, looking down at her with a worried gaze.
"Shit, I didn't realize I fell asleep. Doyoung, you're in my class? How did I never notice?"
"I just moved into this class. Why did you come to class if you are this tired? You should go back and rest..."
Eunjung groaned and stood up, putting her things in her bag and heading out the door, Doyoung by her side.
"You're just like Seoyeon. My best friend," she added when Doyoung looked at her in confusion.
"I'll be fine, I need to pull through so I can get the scholarship. But now I missed a whole lecture", she sighed.
Doyoung pulled out his phone and held it to Eunjung. "Can I have your number? Haha, I'm not trying anything," he laughed when he saw her surprised face. "I can send you the notes that I took. Also, I want to become closer friends with you", he added with a smile.
Eunjung blushed and typed her number in, handing it back to him with a grateful smile.
"How about we-"
Doyoung was cut off by a light-pink haired male who ran up to him and slung his arm around Doyoung's shoulder.
"Hey Doyoung, what are you still doing here? The boys are waiting for you outside."
"Taeyong hyung, can't you see I was talking to someone?", Doyoung sighed. Taeyong glanced over at Eunjung and waved hello.
"Sorry, Doyoung's friend, but I have to steal him away now. Nice meeting you!" Before Eunjung could react, Taeyong dragged Doyoung off, chattering to him loudly.
Doyoung looked over his shoulder at Eunjung with an apologetic smile and mouthed, "Call me".
Eunjung watched the pair walk up to a group of boys, who then headed outside. She thought to herself, I'm so jealous of how he has so many friends, when I barely have any.
Eunjung was a more introverted and quiet person, so it was hard for her to talk to people and make more friends. Especially of the opposite sex, which was why it was so surreal that she opened to Doyoung so much last night. Eunjung smiled and headed down the hallway to her next class.
To come out of my shell, I have to start with someone; that someone is Doyoung for sure.
