That week Louis would walk by the bakery everyday to see if he could speak to Harry, but Harry was never there, he seemed to be on vacation. He walked to his house a few times as well, but never being able to knock at the door.

On New Year's Eve, Louis decided he must speak to Harry, or at least try to, no matter if he was going to be rejected, he only had a few days left to see him and he really wanted to fix things. Knowing Harry would probably refuse to see him, he asked Jay to call Anne and ask her where Harry was going to be.

-Grab a coat, we're going to see the fireworks -Anne told Gemma and Harry

-We never go there mum -Harry protested

-Well we are this year

Once in downtown, Gemma and Anne told Harry to wait for them while they grabbed some snacks for everyone, he said he'd join them but they insisted he was going to lose their spot.
About ten minutes later, Louis appeared next to Harry, fearful that Harry could runaway again.

-Harry... hi -He said diffidently

-What are you doing here? I told you I don't want to see you again! How did you know- of course, my mum and Gemma helped you. I can't even trust my own family

-Harry please, all I'm asking is for a few minutes, please let me talk. If after this you don't want to know anything about me, I'm gonna stay away from you, I swear.

Harry didn't reply, he just crossed his arms and faced Louis silently to let him speak.

-Listen, I never ever meant to hurt you. I'm an idiot okay? I should have told you I had a girlfriend, but I didn't hide it on purpose, this will sound like the most unbelievable cheesy rudest thing in the world but being with you made me completely forget I even had a girlfriend.

-Had? -Harry asked curiously but keeping his frown

-Yes had. I broke up with her. I just told her the truth, I completely forgot about her being my girlfriend, we've been so used to each other but we're so different, maybe all this time we were just supposed to be friends. I told her I never felt about her the way I do for you. I just, I don't know what else to say or how else to explain it I- Louis' voice was cracking now -I'm am so sorry I hurted you, you're wonderful Harry, you certainly deserve better than me, I ruined everything, I'm sorr- Louis couldn't even finish his sentence because Harry had lean in to kiss him.

Everyone else was screaming "Happy New Year" in the back but they couldn't care less about it, in that moment it was just Louis and Harry, Harry and Louis.

-I forgive you Louis. I really like you, but maybe this is the way it should have happened. You're leaving soon, how can I know we will see each other again? -Harry said, still holding Louis

-You can visit me and I can visit you -Louis was wiping away his tears

-I want to thank you Louis, you have given me the best December I could ever asked for. Not only that, you made me feel important, comfortable about myself, no one had ever done that before. I'm gonna miss you, I have thought this through, and as much as I like you I think there are some things I have to deal with about myself before trying to get into dating or a relationship.

-Harry, I really really like you and I'm willing to wait for you all the time you need to

-Louis you can't be waiting for me your whole life

Louis was crying silently, he didn't expect Harry's answer to be like that, he certainly didn't even expect Harry to forgive him, neither to kiss him. He wanted to date Harry, but he also respected Harry's feelings, so he offered to keep being friends.

-Can we at least still be friends?

-Of course we can -Harry smiled

They hugged each other and Louis cried silently on Harry's shoulder. After a while they looked for their families and say their goodbyes.

-Can we spend this last week I've got here together? -Louis asked Harry before joining his mum and sisters

-Of course we can, come pick me up at my school? -Harry smiled

He gave Louis the school address and they went back to their houses. Louis was relieved Harry didn't hate him but couldn't help feeling disappointed about their relationship status, "maybe he's right, we won't even be able to see each other as often". He decided to prepare a gift for Harry and was going to give him it on his last day in Holmes.

During all week, Louis would pick Harry up from school and they would go on long walks, the tension between the boys still palpable, but none of them would do anything, they would just make the best of each minute they spent together.

On the last day Louis and his family were in Holmes, they were invited to eat at Harry's house, they all spent a great time together and Harry and Louis were actually quite silent all the time. Jay invited all of them to their home in Doncaster. Harry asked Louis to go to his bedroom before he had to leave.

-So.... this is it -Harry said almost whispering, clearly sad that Louis was leaving

-I've got something for you -Louis said as he took out a tiny box from his pocket.
He handed the box to Harry and the younger boy opened it to find two black rubber rings.
-These are promise rings, I know you said I can't be waiting my whole life for you, but... I hope we can meet again soon and I don't know maybe sometime in the future, we can try something more than friends...so the promise is that I will find you no matter what okay?

Harry started crying and hugged Louis as tight as he could, yes it was stupid to actually believe Louis would wait for him, they were just teenagers after all, they would probably forget about each other in a few months, but as stupid as it sounded, Harry hoped he could meet again with Louis.

-Can I kiss you one more time? -Harry asked crying

-Of course you can -Louis was crying too and they kissed softly knowing that it was going to be the last kiss they would have.

Both boys parted and smiled shyly. Louis took a letter and asked Harry to read it once he was gone, he asked him to read it until his birthday come. They promised to mail each other, and Harry promised he would try to visit Louis' house as soon as he could.

Dear Harry,
Happy birthday!! By the time you're reading this it will be about a month since I left Holmes. It was the best vacation and birthday that I could have ever asked for in my entire life. I keep my promise of finding you sometime in the future, as silly and as cheesy as it sounds. I have never felt this way before about anyone, it doesn't matter if we only spent a few weeks together, I will never forget you. You're an amazing person, please never let anyone else tell you otherwise, you are perfect the way you are, don't listen to people who judge you just because of what you like. My biggest wish for you is to be happy always and that you don't forget about me either. A piece of my heart is still in Holmes with you, my Hazza, I wish destiny reunites us again, when that happens, I will give you a new ring.

With love, Louis x.

Harry read the letter on his birthday, it wasn't long since Louis was gone, he missed him, but they kept mailing and calling each other when they could. After the months passed, Louis stopped receiving letters from Harry, he wondered if something had happened to him, or maybe the boy was just tired of him. He tried to called but the number was no longer Harry's family. Louis was sad, but he kept on with his life, worked hard for a whole year and got a scholarship in a university in London. He would be moving soon to a small apartment, and he got a job as a florist on a shop not far from college.

Louis never knew anything else about Harry during that whole year. He never forgot about the cute boy with green shiny eyes, but he thought to himself the boy was right, he couldn't be waiting for him his whole life. But he would always remember Harry as his 18th birthday gift.

A/N: God I took so long to finish this fic, I haven't had time and the motivation to write, I'm sorry. Sad end but guess what... I'm gonna write a sequel to this fic, just because I feel like it. So look forward to it!
