Chapter 3

It was a cold morning when I went to work. Jaya, called me a while ago and told me there is a breakfast meeting I have to attend. When I reach the company I immediately enter the building and went to the meeting room. Almost everyone was there; we just waited for a few minutes before we started the meeting.

The meeting didn't last that long after an hour the meeting ended. Now, I'm inside my office leaning against my swivel chair while closing my eyes. A few minutes later I heard Jaya's voice then enter my office. I slowly open my eyes and look at her with a folder in her hands.

"Boss, here are the monthly reports of every department."

I nodded. "Just put it there." and she immediately followed my order and place it on my table. Before she could take another step I speak. "How's the new Engineer manager doing these past few days while I was in New York?"

Jaya forced a smile before answering. "He's doing fine, boss, actually he's in the site right now." Jay just nodded. "He works so hard that he always forgot to take his lunch in time," Jaya added then left her boss alone.

Jay just grinned out of nowhere then look at the bracelet on his wrist.

After an hour of reviewing the reports, Jay sigh as he massages his nape and then stretches his neck to lessen the pain in it. When he check the time it was almost lunchtime. He closes the folder and calls her secretary. When Jaya was already in front of him he immediately ask her to buy him a cup of coffee and a sandwich. Her secretary just nodded and exited the room. He didn't feel so much hunger and also, he have a lot of reports to check.

*******

I stayed at the location till the end of the day to see them at work. I wanted to finish this project well, even if I didn't start it. I always do my task professionally and give it my best each time I have to do it. Now, with this new endeavor, I want to give it my best to complete every work at hand. I don't want to let the boss down, and I certainly don't want to get fired; not again.

My tummy growled as I was driving home. Once again, I failed to remember to eat my lunch. I make a pit stop at a restaurant and place an order. Maybe this will be my dinner as well. When the order arrived, I took a scoop and eagerly ate it. For the fourth day in a row, everything went nicely. It appears that I have regained my luck. I murmur, "Thanks grandmother," as I scoop up another spoonful.

When I completed my lunch, which doubled as dinner, it was getting dark. I got a phone call the instant I stood up, but I didn't glance up since I was staring at my phone as I walk. It was Ni-ki once more.

"Hello?" I muttered, bumping into a random person. I hastily fled the restaurant and walked into my car, saying nothing except "I'm sorry." without looking at the man's face.

"Bro," Ni-ki muttered.

"Oh yeah, why did you call?" Did he cry or is it just my ears that aren't working? But I heard him again afterward. As I started the car, I wondered, "Where are you, bro?"

"At the beach," was enough for me to fly my automobile to his location. Something horrible must have happened to him. Ni-ki is like a younger sibling to me. We've been hanging out with Jake since we were kids, and we usually end up at the beach until the sunsets.

When I arrived, I parked my car and went in search of him. Finally, I noticed him seated on the ground, leaning his knees. Even from afar, I could hear him sobbing. I got close to him and comforted him by rubbing his back. His eyes were puffy and red as he lifted his head. He seemed to have been weeping.
