Clarissa was already having a terrible day to begin with, she just wanted everyone to leave her be. She was supposed to be a rock; strong, nothing can get to her and make her emotional. But her rock hard armor was broken today and she couldn't let people see her vulnerable like this.
She was still in bed even though the numbers on the clock blared eleven-thirty, the curtains were drawn and the lights off, and she was buried under the covers. So far she's managed to avoid human contact. Evan had left early this morning, she remembered when be kissed her good morning, got ready, and was out the door to get some work done. He had no idea that it was the one-year-anniversary of her mother's death and that she was handling it horribly.
Clarissa sighed and grimaced when she heard a gentle rap at the door before it opened, she tried to become invisible in the comforter hoping that whoever it was would just leave.
"Clarissa?"
It was Evan, he had noticed Clarissa's odd behavior when she hadn't come down for breakfast, she never skipped it since she was a health nut, and had decided to dig into it since she obviously wasn't going to talk about it. She didn't talk about her feelings, that wasn't a Clarissa thing to do. Clarissa would just isolate herself long enough to get a hold of herself and then put on a smile and pretend she was okay. And she was quite good at it too.
She didn't move from her spot, just buried further into the sheets, she didn't want Evan especially to see her like this.
He didn't say anything else, just crawled under the covers next to her, wrapping his arms around her, and pulling her close. She took a shaky breath before burying her face in his chest.
He rubbed her back comfortingly, "I'm sorry, darling," he whispered and kissed the top her her head, "if I knew I would've stayed."
"It's okay," She whispered, her voice breaking slightly.
Evan held her closer, "You can cry, it's only me here."
"I don't cry," She said quietly.
He sighed and began to run his fingers through her tangled hair, smoothing it out.
She quietly rested her face in the crook of his neck, just grateful for him being there with her. A stray tear escaped, rolling silently down her cheek. Clarissa quickly wiped it away but not before he noticed. Another tear slid down and he gently wiped it away. She couldn't stop the rest from coming a he held her tightly, letting her cry into his shirt. They stayed like that for what seemed like hours, her crying for every time she wanted to cry before but just pushed it aside. Even though it pained Evan to see her like this, he didn't move. He just held her tighter, planting kisses wherever he could in attempts to makes her feel a bit better.
After awhile, the tears stopped, and they laid there in silence. Not saying anything, just holding each other tightly. And they planned to never let go.
