Chapter 3: Arun

Arun felt the icy chill to his bones. There was a dramatic difference from being within the clay walls of his city and the exposed land that lay before him. He was blindly walking through the black fog dressed in his fur coat given to him by the journier he was inspired to be. His uncle from his mother's side had given it to him the long fur hung to his knees a hood up over his head. He had leather boots and his thickest pants the only skin exposed was his face. He waited till he reached the small cave he knew of outside the city before lighting his torch. He has come here enough times to walk in the dark just listening and feeling his way there. It was hard being blind and the ice rain made it much more difficult but he managed to follow his worn trail.

The cave wasn't a true cave, more like a group of boulders with a large boulder on top creating a structure. Once there Arun stuck his torch into the ground in the center. His gloves were much too thick to light it and after removing them to light it his fingers already felt numb. He warmed them in front of the torch before putting his gloves back on. He made it to this cave in the black icy night his sword was at his side the fires shadows danced along the rock walls. He felt like he accomplished a small but great feat. But, getting somewhere he already knew in the dark was a lot easier than traveling further than he doesn't know well enough to walk blind. All though if he carries his torch he may scare any night beasts away and or draw attention to himself.

He would need his torch, but he would venture out further. He hiked along the rocky terrain large spike tipped trees enclosed the trail. The fog was becoming less thick and the ice pelting down became a drizzle of rain. The morning would be coming shortly. He continued venturing out moving at a steady pace. As the rain slowed the fog began to dissipate and the sky became a brilliant color of red, oranges and peeks of blue and purple. He could see without a torch and he no longer needed his gloves. He knew that he could easily turn around and head home but he decided to keep going for a bit it felt nice to be out in the open land watching the first rays of light touch the ground.

The morning was quiet all night beasts safely tucked away in their hidey holes for the day. Arun easily heard a whimper in the distance, followed by a cry of pain. He didn't think twice to find and help whoever or whatever it was. Arun followed the crying, down off the trail trying to tuck under the thin foliage of a large tree cowered a young girl. She was like no other girl Arun has ever seen. Her skin was a iridescent white almost blue slightly shimmery. Her big eyes were terrified and tears dripped from them. The eye color was also something he'd never seen he'd say they were blue but they seemed to glow yellow. He shook himself it was not a time to be staring and contemplating eye color she was in pain and terrified. "What's wrong are you okay?" He asked her.

"AAHHH!!!" Yue screamed, cowered and tried to shrink into an even smaller ball crouched as small as possible. She knew she would die here but she thought it would be from the sun. Never did she expect a barbaric warrior of the sun would slay her. He had to be a seven foot monster skin as dark as the night adorned in bear beast skin. His sword as big as her.

Arun knew he just startled the poor thing more. His voice alone had her convulsing with fear. "It's okay I'm not going to hurt you." He put his hands up in surrender and backed away. As the light brushed the ground. Yue writhed in pain Arun watched her skin redden and almost sizzle in the sun. He removed his fur coat quickly. "Stay calm I promise I won't hurt you." He spoke calmly and tossed the blanket over top of her legs. Her face was still shadowed by the trees.

Yue was so confused. He spoke so gently and calmly. He was huge burly and his muscles rippled, everything was so bright her eyes could barely focus. "Too hot. Too bright. Leg..." She managed to say before her eyes shut. Heat exhaustion, worry and fear knocked her out.

Arun watched her eyes roll back, flutter and shut. "No, no." He panicked and kneeled down beside her tiny frame. Her breathing was easy she looked to just be asleep. He looked around himself. She's obviously a moonwalker but she doesn't look like a demon at all. Just a small skinny frail pale girl. He carefully peaked under his coat and looked at her leg. He thought he understood her faint whisper, hot, bright, leg. Her ankle was obviously broken. It just hung from her leg sideways.

He stood up looked around himself "You can do this." He thought. He broke a few branches off a tree next to them. He went back over to the girl and laid the branches off to her side and covered her completely with his fur. When he first went off trail he noticed a bush and these types of bushes are tangled together with a wiry branch that's pliable and can be used like rope. He used his knife and stretched out a nice length of branch.

Going back to her he used his sword and fur to make a tent over her where the trees shade wouldn't hit her. He used the thicker tree branch to create a splint and the vine like branch to tie it on. She flinched and whimpered as he made his makeshift brace but didn't wake. Now that he stabilized her leg he knew he should move her. She was sweating and her skin was all pinkish. He quickly wrapped her up in his coat it swallowed her tiny frame he made sure no skin was showing and scooped her up in his arms.

He thought about going back to his little cave but dismissed the idea quickly it was to close to home and wasn't a real cave. Never in a million years did he think he would be trying to rescue a moonwalker when he left his home in the night. But here he was none the less. He needed cool, dark and deeper. He and his friends liked to journey outside the city. One time he was forbidden to leave his room for a week because they traveled all the way to the ancient city his uncle had told him about. It took an entire day to get there they had to build a fire and make a tent to survive the night and journey home the following day. Along the way there was a cave he had discovered and that would be the closest safe spot for the moonwalker he could think of. It would normally take half an hour to walk there from where he was two hours from home but he knew she wouldn't survive long. The sun was up and the dew was already beginning to evaporate. He jogged, not a fast run where he could lose his breath but as fast and steady as he could manage. Her weight did not matter to him she felt so light in his arms.

Within ten minutes he was at the mouth of the cave. He adjusted her over his shoulder and removed his sword at his waist. There was a large chance that this would be home to another creature hiding from the day. It was instantly cooler and darker when he went past the threshold. He ventured deeper in stepping silently intently listening for any sounds within. The only breathing he could hear was his and hers. When he went as far back as the second corridor where barely any light reached and he had to strain his eyes to make out the shadows he carefully laid her down. He unwrapped her from his coat. She laid there so frail and broken. Her body was much more slender than people of the sun were. No muscles from a hard days work. She wasn't hard and defined like him. She looked smooth like porcelain. Her hair was long and silver weaved together down to the middle of her back. She was wearing thin light material he had never seen before. It flowed along her body loose but hugging her slight curves. He couldn't stop himself from thinking this does not look like a demon of the night more like a soft beautiful angel with glowing skin and captivating eyes.
