Jordan's POV:
"Uh, what are you two doing?" Vex points at Dre with judgmental eyes.
We're standing outside the cafe in the freezing cold, shivering our asses off. Even though the sky is clear and the sun's high, down here on the ground, we're living in a Frozen movie. The ground is covered in a good six inches of snow. As a Coloradan, I'd like to say I'd handle it better than most other Americans. Especially Texas.
Dre's been braiding my hair ever since I got off my shift. He says that it's really soft and pretty, and it's a shame I don't style it more often, considering how long it is. I really should think about cutting it soon.
"Aww, don't be like that, Vex. I can do your hair too: if you're getting jealous," Dre smirks as he makes my hair into a fishtail. He's a lot better at it than I thought he'd be.
Kai scoffs. He throws his skating gear in the trunk of Vex's car and hops into the backseat without a word. He gets moody like this whenever Dre and I talk. And he's been coming to my dorm a lot more than usual.
Vex shakes her head and walks around to the driver's side door, "You'd be one stupid kid if you think I'm about to let some white boy come anywhere near my braids," she says with a slam of the car door.
I sit in the front with Dre behind me as he continues to work. Honestly, I had my doubts about him at first. I thought he was a complete f-boy, but he's actually fairly chill. He reminds me of Noah sometimes.
I tug at the bottom of my skinsuit as Vex drives off. She said she had a surprise for the whole team today and told us to meet at Lake Ontario at five with all of our gear. Kai and I drive by it some days when we feel like taking a mental health break before work and school. It's all frozen over at this time of year.
.
.
.
"Whoa, what are you guys doing here?" I ask. They're the last people I expected to see. Kai's speechless too. Is there about to be some throw down or something? Are we about to witness a crime?
Vex slaps us on the back of the head as she walks down the snowy hill that leads to the frosty lake. If I didn't know better, I would think it's the ocean. The sun's lowering, creating red and purple hues in the clouds and sky. It's amazing. But I'm too focused on the three people in front of me to care about the view.
"I invited them here, dumbass," Vex says.
At this point, I don't know where my life is going. I thought we were supposed to be bitter rivals with these guys, but I guess we're friends?
"Hello again," Emi waves to me, "It's nice to see you, Jordan."
I smile awkwardly, "Uh, yeah, you too." This girl is so proper it's kind of freaky. Maybe if I ignore her, she'll go away.
Jill jumps into my line of sight, getting way too close for my liking. Her curly, dirty blonde hair tickles my face. I'm too stunned to back away. "You're the rookie that gave Faith a run for her money," she says, and her lips curl up into a smirk, "It's a pleaser to speak with you, Jordan Parks." She's exactly how I expected her to be. I bet she made a lot of trouble for Vex and the others in the past.
"And you," I chuckle. She's a little more up close and personal compared to Emi, but I already feel more comfortable around her. "Jill Aker, right?"
"That's me!" she exclaims.
My eyes travel to the tall boy that I vaguely recognize. He has short bleached hair and deep brown eyes. His ears are covered in badass piercings. When our eyes meet, I feel my cheeks get red. How can someone possibly be that attractive? He's hotter than Creed and prettier than Kai. God, please kill me now. The last thing I want to see before I go is those rich eyes.
