Aizawa Shouta stares at Shinsou's retreating back as he heads away from the classroom they had been conversing in front of. He hadn't meant to be present for the conversation Monoma and Shinsou were having but in his defence, they were talking loud enough to disrupt the quick nap Shouta normally takes before a day of classes begins.

What was, 'I won't make it into the hero course anyway,' about anyway. He had never taken Shinsou for one to be doubtful of himself, he had shown promise in the sports festival despite the pressure of going against hero students.

Something wasn't adding up but Shouta was frustratingly unaware of what it was. He had always viewed Shinsou as a lot like himself - someone who makes the best of a bad situation.

He was similar to Shouta in many ways: they had both entered UA through general studies and had the opportunity to transfer to the hero course. Even their style of fighting is the same, they can't always rely on their quirks and so a lot of deception and intelligence is required. This drew Shouta to Shinsou in the first place.

Shouta paused for a moment, perhaps they aren't as alike as he had assumed. He hates to say it, but he doesn't know Shinsou that well at all yet. Was it possible Shinsou wasn't as interested in entering the hero course as Shouta had been?

But Shinsou had told him that he would do anything to get into the hero course so that couldn't be right. You're missing something.

The teacher retreated into Class 1A, still pondering the situation. As much as it pains him to admit, he doesn't know why Shinsou is still uncertain about making it into the hero course. He resigns himself to thinking about it later. Maybe he will ask Hizashi about it.

Shouta shakes the thoughts from his head as his class begins to filter in.

With classes finally over for the day, Shouta's thoughts turn back to the situation with Shinsou. It might be best to forget about what was said to Monoma. After all, they seemed to be arguing.

Things said in the heat of an argument are sometimes not what is actually meant. It would be prudent of him to assume based on one conversation.

Shouta packs up his things faster than normal, hoping to get to the gym earlier than usual. The conversation with Monoma stays in his head the entire walk to Gym Gamma. Shouta pauses before entering. He can't hear anything from within.

Shouta frowns, normally Shinsou is running drills while waiting. Is he working on his homework instead?

He sighs and pushes the door open, stepping into the gym with a slouch. Shinsou is across the other side of the gym. He is sitting down against the wall, homework nowhere to be found.

When Shouta approaches, Shinsou visibly jumps and snaps his head to look at Shouta.

"Sensei, I was just..." Shinsou trails off, waving down at where he had been seated and Shouta eyes him thoughtfully.

"Shouldn't you be doing drills, Shinsou? Is there something wrong?" Shouta asks carefully, looking the teen up and down for any sign of an issue.

Shinsou pushes himself up and waves his hands, "Sorry sensei, nothing is wrong. I just hadn't started yet is all. I wasn't expecting you so soon." He quickly stretches and begins to run through the drills Shouta had shown him a couple of days earlier.

The words only puzzle Shouta more, does Shinsou only start work closer to the time Shouta arrives? The conversation from before comes back to the front of his mind.

Is Shinsou not taking this seriously? The thought startles him for a second. Shinsou had never seemed to be taking his training for granted and yet the more he looks at Shinsou, the more the thought is planted deeper in his mind.
