CHAPTER FOUR – THE KERTAUN

Jersan swam quickly into the base.  The base in the Laurentian abyss was the coldest of the cold and the pressure was heavy. But he and the other were born in this environment, and they thrived.

He received several respective gestures as he passed, even a few flirtatious ones. But he had no time to stop. He had to tell Celone, the leader of the Kertaun Resistance. He headed straight to her strategy room.

She was there studying a carved stone map of the Atlantic. “I know you’re my second, but you should at least ask before you enter.”

“My apologies, but I have news.”

“What kind of news?” she asked, still intent on the map.

“News that could turn thing in our favor.”

She jerked up.  He had her attention now. “Tell me.”

“I saved a girl today from a shark.”

“So?”

“Patience.  She was Aurania, youngest daughter of the Atlantic Queen.”

“The double blooded one? Unbelievable! Where is she?” she started for the exit.

Jersan grabbed her arm.

“WHAT!!” she screeched her filed pointed teeth bared. “You didn’t bring her here? What were you thinking? She could have been useful.”

“I have other plans for her”

“NO! YOU have no plans without ME!” Jersan underestimated  her anger.

“Our true enemies are the Pacific not Atlantic. Bes-“

“Even though Atlantic usually lets us be, all monarchies should be overthrown. Its crushing-“

“I think I will have her!” Jersan blurted in.

Celone stopped, stunned by the announcement.

He continued. “She is double blooded, I am double blooded. That will make us powerful.  Having a connection to the Atlantic will be a bonus.”

She sighed and pulled herself down into a chair. “that may have been a great situation, but it wont happen.”

“Why not? I can seduce her. We will be a good match.”

“It won’t happen.  The scout we sent came back today.  A Pacific squadron is on its way to Aldunae.  Queen Olensa asked for their assistance.”

“The Pacific would never give them there trained guards.”

“You’re right.  But they would if they received something they want.  Rumor is you Aurania is set to marry the Pacific prince.”

Jersan look floored.

“Wow! She must have made quite an impression.  You look upset.”

“ It’s not a done deal yet!”

“Yes it is.”

“No! She is not officially tied to him. Anyway who would want Prince Dergan? He is said to be a weak, boring mama’s boy of an anchovy.  She cant resist me.”

“By the depths, you’re cocky!”

“Yeah! I hope she likes that” Jersan Smiled at the thought of his first infatuation.
