𝐎𝐌𝐍𝐈𝐒𝐂𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐏𝐎𝐕it's a mundane afternoon for jay. he's simply at work, glancing at the watch on his wrist every few seconds. his 4:15 break couldn't come quickly enough. the male let's out a labored sigh, looking up to see if any customers were entering the store. in the back of his mind he thought maybe if he kept himself busy time would pass quicker.
as jay looks up a customer comes in. they look fairly familiar if jay was being honest. the customer began looking around a bit, jays eyes following them as they did so until it clicked in their head — it was robin. jay thinks to himself for a second, debating whether he should go up and talk to the dread head or let someone else.
truthfully he had no reason to be hesitating over such a trivial thing — it was his job to talk to customers but this was different for some reason. the light skin hands were shaking and his breathing was irregular. "jay?" the boy was pulled out of his thoughts by the smallers voice. jay looked down at the dread head, meeting the smallers gaze.
"do you think you could help me? i'm looking for some doc martens." they stated, swinging their shopping bags side to side whilst smiling sweetly. "y-yeah of course. what size?" the male questioned. "nine. in black please." jay nodded quickly, running off to the back to look for the shoes. the male
smiled when he was able to find them, bringing them back to robin pridefully."here ya go. did you want anything else?" the taller questioned handing them the shoes. "no i think that's all. i think i've spent enough money already." they joke quietly.
"what did you buy?" jay questions laughing lightly. "new clothes for school. it's my senior year so i figured i should look my best even though i always do." the dread head states confidently. jay watches as they stand up, watching them look at the shoe in the mirror. jay takes the moment to get a good look at robin, admiring them. the dread head is wearing a pink cami dress with a matching head wrap. their dreads messily fall on their shoulders and a pearl necklace hangs around their neck. they might be wearing a little makeup but truthfully jay can't tell, he just knows they look gorgeous.
"hopefully you bought stuff that won't get you dress coded." the light skin teased. robin smiles, turning around to throw the taller a playful glare. "don't jinx me." they retort taking off the shoe. "does it fit ok?" jay questions taking the shoe and putting it back in the box. "yeah. thank you." robin smiles once more.
"no problem it's my job. come up to the counter and i'll check you out." the taller responds. "i think you've done that already." robin laughs grabbing their things. jay thinks about the comment for a second, their cheeks heating up when they realize what robin said.
once robin pays for their shoes jay bags up the box and hands robin the receipt. "you got a pen?" the dread head questions. jay hands them a random one that's behind the counter and watches as robin scribbles something on their receipt. robin hands the receipt back to jay and begins to walk out of the store. the taller looks at the receipt, his face heating up more when he realizes it's their number written on the thin sheet of paper.
"you don't want your receipt?" jay calls out. robin shakes their head, waving goodbye before leaving the store. jay looks at the paper again, before folding it and stuffing it in his pocket. he looks at the computer again, reading the time.
4:31 pm
jay smiles at the time.

it's nearing seven now and jays finally arrived to the barren apartment he calls home. "ma?" the teen calls out, pursing his lips together when he receives no response. he closes and locks the door behind himself before going to his room and closing the door. the male sighs, throwing himself on his bed and closing his eyes.
the light skin lays their quietly, listening to the buzzing of his fan. the boy closes his eyes for a few moments but truthfully he's not sleepy so he opens his eyes, letting out an elongated sigh. that's when it strikes him — he's bored.
not for long though, as he remembers he got robins phone number. the male pulls out his phone and the receipt looking over the phone number again. the uneasy feeling from earlier returns, and his hands begin to feel clammy again. nonetheless jay types in the number, and types in a quick message.
hey it's jay
he looks over the message, it's quite simple but for some reason he's over thinking. what if it's too simple? should i say something funny? should i add an emoji? what if it's the wrong number? ultimately jay simply sends the message and turns his phone off, trying not to them about it too much. he leaves it on the bed and decides to take a shower — as if that would help with his uneasy stomach and shaky hands.
the male grabs a pair of clothes to change into an a towel, placing them on the counter in the bathroom. he walks back into his room, deciding that he'd like to listen to music while he showers. he turns the phone on, feeling his heart almost skip a beat when he looks at the text from robin
omg hey :)

jay smiles at the message.

while the male doesn't realize it, he's smiling in the mirror like a little kid and so is robin.
