Kayden walked through the door just after Uriel, Erica, and Yvonne.

He was also just in time to hear Uriel say, "Right on time as usual. The twenty second decrease must have been a simple outlier."

Kayden sighed. He couldn't wait for summer.

He would have to suffer roughly two more months of school before he would be done forever.

Despite being seventeen, he was a senior in high school, because he'd skipped first grade.

As such, he shared a grade with the triplets, and also a few classes.

People didn't realize that they were separated by a year. Instead, Kayden was grouped in with his siblings, as the fourth triplet.

This used to bother him until he used it to his advantage.

The benefits of living in the shadows of eight successful siblings: No one bothered to look at him too closely.

It made his life with an alter ego so much easier.

A short girl with a hot pink dyed pixie cut collided with his shoulder.

"Kayden! You look positively dead on your feet. Did you bring the markers I asked for?"

Kayden would've facepalmed if his shoulder wasn't stinging and the other hand wasn't holding his guitar case.

"Sorry, Lila. I thought I forgot something."

She pouted at him. "I needed those today Kayden! What am I supposed to do when bio gives me a blank poster?"

"Borrow color from somebody else?" He asked, stopping when he felt something nudge his elbow.

He turned to see Uriel, with a package, the package, of markers he was supposed to bring.

He took the markers, and Uriel dashed off, running to dispose of his backpack.

Lila smiled after Uriel. "So helpful. Seriously, he's like superhuman. We don't thank him enough."

Kayden was temporarily blinded by fury. Fury that he could never be good enough, no matter how hard he tried. Fury that everything was so easy for Uriel. Fury that he wasn't truly noticed for who he was.

Until he reminded himself, as he always did.

Who cares what they think? You need this. Use it to your advantage. Detach your emotions, and use logic. The more invisibility you have, the more visible your alter ego and true self can be.

Lila was looking at him funny.

"You ok? Your eyes did that funky thing again, where they get these little gold flecks."

Kayden sighed, resisting the urge to beam. His magic had never failed him. His eyes would never flash their true color unless he let them.

Uriel isn't good at everything, Kayden had to remind himself, none of your siblings are. None of them sing or wield magic as you can. Remember that.

"I'm fine, Lila. Just tired." He told her, his anger gone.

He walked to his locker alone, setting his backpack inside, and walked down the hallway with his guitar case in hand, praying the piano would be in the band room so he could adequately tune his guitar out loud.

His first class was the only one that mattered. The only one he ever fully paid attention to every single day.
