Chapter 3

Four Hours Before the Ball

Tonight's the night of the annual ball. The ball was to be held in our banquet hall on the main floor of the castle. As I was getting ready in my silver and black tux my father's beta mind-links me to inform me at there was trouble at the northern border. I look down at my watch before nodding, "I have four hours before the ball, should be plenty of time to deal with this." After I acknowledge that I heard him I start to undress so that I can change into my gigantic black wolf. I dawn white paws, and white tips on my ears and tail. Once I change into my wolf, I shake out my fur as my birthmark on my neck starts to tingle. As soon as it started, I got the urge to go out front to the arriving planes but instead I refocused on the task at hand before bolting toward our northern border, making it there within five minutes.

I shift back grabbing basketball shorts out from the base of a tree. "What is the issue Beta Rott?" Beta Rott points to the rouge thrusting around in the patrol guards' hands. "This rouge tried to steal a female saying she is his mate" says Beta Rott. "Well, how do you know she isn't?" I asked. "Because it's my wife, she said that her mate died just like mine so he can't be her mate because he isn't dead." I nod my head slightly but than shake it looking at my beta before looking at the rouge then at my beta female that I am just now noticing. "Ariel is this man your mate or not" I ask using my alpha tone so she can't lie. Ariel looks down slowly nodding. "I'm sorry I don't understand nodding" I tell her. Ariel looks up sadly at her husband "Yes he is, but he must be my second chance mate because my mate died when I was 16 from a stroke". I nod than tell the patrol guards to release the man. "Look as long as everyone can be civil everything will be okay since tonight's the ball, but the first time any of you act out I'll personally lock you in the cells."

I look at my watch a curse as I notice it's been 5 hours since I left the house which means I have to go straight to the banquet hall with barely any time to get dressed and make the appearance with my family. Upon this realization I shift into my wolf and take off toward my packs' banquet hall making it there with 20 minutes to spare. I quickly change and finger comb my hair before I join my family at the top of the stairs as they get ready to descend them. My mother looks at me and cocks her eyebrow silently questioning my almost tardiness. I simply shake my head tapping my forehead, afterward I mind-link her showing her what I have been up to for the last 5 hours that almost made me tardy. My mother near the end of the link seems to be trying not to laugh which in turn made me have to cough so that I didn't laugh with her, my father and brothers look at us as if we were crazy which just pushed us over the edge and we burst out laughing. Suddenly my neck where my birthmark is buzzes like it did at the house only stronger.

My father gives me a glare along with my mother as we are getting ready to descend the stairs. Once we hit the platform at the middle of the stairs my birthmarks buzzing feeling becomes pain so I look around to see it only one is acting weird and to also try and relieve the sensation. To my disappointment no one seems to be acting out of the ordinary so I try to ignore the feeling and rub the back of my neck. To start the evening my father does his speech, then the main northern packs alpha family comes up to me and my brothers to see if anyone of us could be mates. I shake the young alpha males' hand and nod before moving onto his sister who as tradition won't look at me. Upon touching her hand, the buzzing of my neck is replaced with the tingles of a mate bond. I place my other hand under her chin to make her look up at me as my other hand goes to remove her mask and we both say "mate".

Right as I'm about to see my mates true eye color and her face she is ripped away from me, and judging by the same hair color her mother is the one who is taking my mate. I roar in outrage as I chase after them. Just as I reach their location her mother is shoving my mate toward six men in cloaks telling them to get out of here with my mate on a boat. I feel my wolf take over as all I see is red and dart after them only for my mate's mother to stupidly step in front of a ragging wolf, just as my wolf is about to attack my father and mother along with my mate's family tackle me to the ground while I regain control of my wolf and shift back. "DOES ANYONE WANT TO EXPLAIN WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON" I yell. 

My mother does her best to hold me back from my mates' mother. The mother of my mate starts to shake as he tells me that she had no chose as it was the wish of the moon goddess. "What do you mean the will of the moon goddess?" just as I ask that the moon begins to shine so bright that we all have to cover our eyes. "I separated you and Lorelei because once you mark her a dark force will come for the both of you, which it why I'm here to take you with me to have my mate train you and your wolf" says Artemis the moon goddess. My parents begin to get upset at the mention of me leaving, the moon goddess looks at them and her eyes glaze our and she apparently mind links my parents because their eyes are glazed as well. Once their eyes become normal they look at me as if they don't know who I am anymore, at the same time my mothers eyes become misty as she starts to cry. "Oh my lovely son we will miss you but you'll be home before long"my mother says as I cock my head as I raise my eyebrow at the sudden mood change of my parents before everything goes black.
