Because it's the 60's some things are different, dating culture, being unmarried pregnant, etc. (You don't know how shocked I was that the first at home pregnancy test was made in the early 80s and what a fucking weird method they used before.)
If it's not clear until this part there's a pregnancy trope in it, You will only see a few parts of the pregnancy, like I said fast-paced.
