Ch 4 : Temporary Friendship?

They were walking side by side, until Korn stopped in his tracks and realized he forgot to do something. He stops Wai, " Wai! wait!". He ran to cover the small distance he was left trailing behind Wai.

Wai stopped, a deep shade of confusion painted on his face, "What happened?", he asked.

"There's something you should know before we go out of the park", Korn said panting, out of breath from running.

"What?? Cut the crap and say it already!?", Wai is getting annoyed.

"Hey!! Don't talk to me like that. You are being rude", Korn is agitated. "There is something on your face". Korn started laughing just after he said it.

"Where? what?? Ugh.. don't laugh.. tell me", Wai is searching his face with both of his hands, ruffling his own hair. Korn looks at Wai and really Wai is so cute. Haha, just like a big baby, he thought.

Korn lifted his own left hand to wipe the damp portions of the chocolate ice cream they shared a while ago. Korn gently wiped it. Wai is looking at him with wide eyes. He did not expect that at all. Never in his wildest dreams. Korn's hands are warm. It gives Wai a whiplash, wtf am I thinking, Wai slapped his inner self.

Korn noticed the way Wai got tensed under his fingers. He pulled his hands to himself, realizing what he just did. Blood rushing to his ears, he looked at his sides. Scratching his neck, hoping the awkward moment would pass somehow. It's not that he regrets it. Wai's face and corner of his mouth are soft.

Korn doesn't know shit about talking his way out. He stammers, "umm.. So-sorry Wai.. I didn't me-mean it. It- it just accidentally happened", he finished his words in a hurry to justify his actions as soon as possible. As fast as he can. And thank God Wai did not make a big deal out of this. They both feeling awkward, don't know how to proceed. Korn reminded them, they were going for a dinner to celebrate their friendship. Wai protested, "uh huh.. Temporary friendship it is."

That was enough to make them laugh out loud, the tension and awkwardness disappearing into thin air. They continued their walking towards the curry shop. Neither of them protested, it was a mutual decision. They went in and sat down in a corner table, a table for two people.

They sat down, the waiter bought them two glasses of water. They ordered how they like.

Korn ordered Thai Basil spicy fried rice and chicken.
Wai ordered Nam - Pik - Phao chicken.

They waited, both do not know how to start a conversation.
Korn is looking at outside the glass window. Wai is scrolling his phone. Pran asked for his guitar back someday, Wai decided he will go to Pran's dorm tonight, to give him a surprise and handing the guitar to its own owner.

"Hey! When is your birthday?", Korn asked ambivalent not knowing what to say to break the silence.

Wai looked at him with a puzzled look, an eyebrow raised. Wai is frowning, Korn stayed silent waiting for some snarky remark. But, all Wai did afterwards made him more nervous and heartbeat raising. Wai smiled, he smiled. At Korn. What the fuck? It vexed Korn so much. But he figured the smile is because of their new friendship. It eased him, a little. Wai may have sensed his unease.

"Don't worry. I understand, this is all new to us. We don't know what to do or say. I understand you completely." , Wai smiles. A wave of relief hits Korn, a sigh left his mouth.

Wai answered the question. "31st july. what about yours?" He wiggled his eye brows at the boy in front of him. Korn smiled with a small nod. "Mine is 8th May. I am older than you, call me phi."

Wai rolled his eyes but laughed nonetheless. Their food was served in the middle of their laughter.

They ate in peace and paid for themselves. Wai is standing up first, I have to go to Pran's dorm tonight. Bye. I have to go. Talk to you soon, temporary friend."

"Bye, and good night", Korn shouted at Wai. A small smile was thrown towards Korn, which he returned in a same manner. Both of them waved a little and then they went separate ways.

Wai took Pran's guitar from his own room and went to Pran's dorm. He went there to give Pran a surprise visit. Pran took a little time to open the door. Anyway, who cares. Wai gave him back his own guitar. He bragged about how well he kept it and took care of it. Pran was fidgeting and Wai is not sure why? Maybe he was busy doing something. He will ask later. He took his leave, Pran had said they should have dinner together. But, Wai doesn't think he can tell Pran, he just had dinner with Korn his nemesis. That will be awkward. Anyway!! He told Pran, he ate and if Pran wants him to buy food, he will order for him. Pran denied as always.

"Alright, have a good night. See you tomorrow." , Wai waved and bid farewell.

He came back to his dorm. So much has happened today. He needs a long well deserved rest.

Wai slipped under his warm blanket and drifted off to the dreamland.

Maybe tomorrow is a better day. A temporary friendship is established. Temporary, but friendship nonetheless, right?

Well, that will do. Good night World. Tomorrow is a new day.
