Jen wiped away her tears as she turned off the TV after the final credit of the season 8 finale of Friends, that also posed as the series finale.
She was sad for this chapter of her life to end, but also happy and excited about the future ahead of her.
While Ross and Rachel had struggled for four more seasons, her and David had been happy together in the past years. Fortunately, in the end, all characters had gotten their happy end: Ross and Rachel finally made things right between them after having a daughter together that was conceived during a drunken night, and a proposal had been hinted. Monica and Chandler decided to start a family after getting married and Matt and Lisa finally got heard by the writers, with their crazy idea to reveal Joey and Phoebe had secretly been friends with benefits during the whole show, now being ready to out themselves to their friends.
They all had been kind of torn to end the show, but it had gotten out of hand: Everyone had picked up rolls on the side and it got harder and harder to get the schedules together.
As to be expected, David had been catapulted to stardom even more quickly after taking up the role on "Men in Black", and was now an established part of Hollywood's A-list together with guys like Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt. And somehow, Jen had followed him suit.
This fact had also complicated the negotiations with the studio for new seasons: as they still stuck to their "same work, same money" ethic, the executives were simply unwilling to adjust their salaries to the level of fame of their cast. It was either wrap up the show of have people leave.
After a discussion as a group, they had decided to end the show with all of them together, while they and the audience still had a blast with it.
Jen and David had gotten married in an intimate ceremony with their closest friends and family 2 years ago, the same year David was named "Sexiest Man Alive" by People Magazine (it's not like she had not seen it coming years ago).
And in another twist, at least one of the writers had to be a psychic, they had given Rachel a positive pregnancy test in the season 7 finale. As if they had known that Jen herself would be crying in the arms of her husband, both over the moon about 2 pink lines on a small stick in her hand right before production on the last season started.
At the beginning of Season 8, it was revealed that Ross was the father to Rachel's on screen baby, and there had been a lot of joking by their friends as they watched the chaotic duo onscreen without being able to admit their feelings for one another, while in real life, Jen and David were almost crazy happy as a couple as Jen's belly grew bigger.
After taping the finale, she had taken a year off any other projects to concentrate on her family, and David had only taken on stuff that would allow him to stay in LA so that he would be able to fully embrace his role as a new father and support his wife all the way.
As the screen went black, she saw the man of her dreams walk back into the living room with a small bundle in his arms that was their 3 weeks old daughter. They had contemplated to watch the episode together with the rest of the gang, but this had simply not been possible with a newborn. While she missed her friends in this moment, there was no place she would rather be than here with the two of them.
He had never looked sexier to her as in this moment, a baby pink blanket on his shoulder, rocking the baby against his chest. Definition of a DILF, she smiled and thought to herself, as he spoke:
"Ella Arlene Schwimmer is announcing that it was not only the poopy diaper bothering her, she is hungry, too. Since I physically only could take care of the first, I brought her down for the latter... Oh man, I missed the ending!!!"
She extended her arms to him to hand over the baby, then lifted her shirt to hold her daughter to her chest. She gently let the hand glide over the surprisingly thick, dark hair on her head. Her facial features reminded her a lot of her own baby pictures, including the large blue eyes.
"Don't worry, we still have the TIVO, honey!", she said, overjoyed by the happiness that surrounded her, nursing her beautiful child. The man of her dreams sat down next to them, gently kissing the baby's forehead while putting his arm around her shoulder. Then he gently caressed the baby's cheek before looking at Jen in awe.
When their lips met for a gentle kiss, she could not be more thankful for this man being brave enough to persuade her to give them a shot 5 years back.
