A game of word association is how time went by in class today. Usually, we work out of a book or something. Answer a few questions to show we're actually learning something in the class. My singing must have put Renee in a good mood—or better—mood than before. Even Kristian was looking at me differently; his almond eyes seeming a few shades brighter.

Kristian keeps giving me a side-eye, for every question that I willingly answer. Hey, newsflash, I'm actually a nerd at heart. Can you believe it? Adeline May actually participates in class. Only when a reason is given, but she participates, nonetheless.

When the bell rings, I follow the other kids out as usual. I hear someone saying 'hey, wait up' but I don't know anyone here. The person talking couldn't have been talking to me.

I continue walking the same route I walked a few days ago, following Kristian out. I thank the boy who holds the door open for me and began scanning the courtyard. Like I said before, as usual. I see Silas's friends standing by a tree and start walking towards them. Someone touches my arm, just as I'm about to walk off.

"Hey," says Kristian, wearing a hesitant smile. "Glad I caught you."

I smile back. "Hey,"

"Those were some pretty powerful notes you were hitting in there," he comments.

I shrug. "I guess. Thanks,"

"I kind of pegged you for a country singer,"

Rolling my eyes, I say, "Really,"

"Yeah, I mean, with you being from Texas and all—" I roll my eyes at this too, "—and your mom's songs."

"She didn't sing country,"

"Yes, she—"

"I don't know what you heard, but it wasn't that hillbilly country music," I chuckle to him humorlessly.

Kristian rocks back on his heels. "Sorry, I don't mean to offend you."

"I'm not offended, its just—"

Silas's scent fills my nose and I stop. I hear him breathing heavily from behind me and I turn.

"Sorry, coach gave us a five-minute break," he says, leaning down on his knees.

"I didn't know you had practice today,"

"Yeah, that makes two of us." Silas pauses, noticing Kristian standing with us. His curly hair falls in front of his eyes, and he brushes it out of his way. "What's up, Kris,"

"Hi," he says awkwardly.

"So, yeah. You don't mind hanging around a bit, do you? Coach will let you watch us practice if there's nothing for you to do."

"Yeah, yeah. I'll do whatever."

Silas waves and runs off around the school.

I sigh. "Anyways, um..."

"I can... show you where the field is. If you want," Kristen says, pulling me back into the conversation.

"No, it's okay. I can find—"

"And I am supposed to be showing you around the school and stuff."

A grin begins to grow on my face. "You are, aren't you,"

He grins back and points to wear Silas ran off. "It's around the corner."

For some reason, I look towards Silas's group of friends. The others don't seem to notice anything outside of their conversation, but Cameron is staring right at me. Before I can register the look in her eyes, she looks away with a small, barely noticeable eye roll.

I turn back to Kristen, now the ghost of a grin on my face. Right.

cross your fingers for an update next week!
