Laina Pov
It was a cold day in Woking. There was snow falling on the ground and there were kids outside building snowmen. I was sitting inside by my fireplace drinking my hot chocolate. My mom had a meeting at her work today so I was stuck babysitting my younger siblings. I watched my little brother and sister outside making snow angels on the ground and building a snowman. They were crazy kids. My parents had me when they were 30, the age I am now. They then had my siblings when they were 42 meaning I was 12 years older than they were. They were somewhat miracle babies because its harder to get pregnant at that age than it was with me. They're twins and their names are Lucas and Eleanor but she goes by Ellie. If you call her Eleanor, you will get an upset little 6 year old. My name is Laina. I was in my second year of university because I skipped a grade. I was studying public relations. I wanted to follow in my dad's footsteps. My dad passed away a few years ago from a car accident, he worked in Nascar for a Nascar team so he wasn't home a lot, but the time he was home, he always spent with us. We would always play princess when I was little and we played space aliens when my siblings were 4. Then when he was driving back from the airport after a trip to America, he got hit head on by a drunk driver and got seriously hurt. He made it to the hospital, but he passed away a few days later. My siblings didn't really understand, but I was 16 and understood the whole thing. My siblings still ask when daddy is going to be home which breaks my mom's and I's hearts. Ever since my mom has been working two jobs. One as a nurse and another as a waitress on the weekends when she wasn't working. She wasn't able to home a lot, but she did everything she did for us which I greatly appreciated.
I heard my siblings run into the house and I knew what they were going to say. "Lainey we are cold, can we take a bath." It was what happened every single time. As I heard footsteps running into the living room I expected the normal, but it wasn't what I was expecting.
"Lainey, theres somebody at the door." Ellie said as she ran into her room with Lucas. I was a bit confused but I walked to the front door and opened it. A guy who was about my age was standing there and he had beautiful brown curls and he was fiddling with his thumbs.
"Can I help you?" I said.
"Hi, so my car broke down and I was wondering if you had any jumper cables or if anyone could help me." He said as I looked back at his car. He had a McLaren. I had never seen one before so I was shocked.
"Oh sure, but please come in, you look freezing. Can I offer you anything to drink?" I asked.
"I'm good thanks, by the way, I'm Lando. And you are?"
"Laina, but most people call me Lainey and the two little kids you saw running around are my younger siblings Lucas and Ellie."
"Haha, nice to meet you Lainey. Have you always lived in Woking?" He asked.
"No, we recently moved here after my dad passed away because it was less expensive than our last house."
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear about your dad."
"It's fine. It was two years ago, it just breaks my heart whenever my siblings ask when he's coming home. So um, where are you from."
"Oh, I'm from Bristol, but I just moved here to be closer to where I work. Have you heard of Formula 1?"
"I love Formula 1! I haven't watched it since my dad passed away though. That was what we would always watch with each other. He worked for a Nascar team in America, but he always managed to watch Formula 1 races with me no matter what. The last race I saw was in 2016 right before my dad passed. It was when Nico won the title."
"It's cool you have heard of F1. I'm actually going to be a driver next season for McLaren."
"Really? That's so cool. I've wanted to get back into watching F1, but I've been nervous too because I don't want to get flashbacks from when my dad and I would watch it."
"I get that. Do you think you would ever like to watch some races with me? Like hangout. You seem pretty cool Lainey."
"Um sure! Didn't think I was going to meet an F1 driver then get invited to watch races with them." I laughed.
"We can watch them, but maybe we should jump start my car first?" He joked.
"Oh yeah I forgot about that, let's go out and I'll grab the cables." We walked outside to jumpstart his car and once we did that, we said our goodbyes and exchanged numbers and parted ways until the next time we would meet.
