Blood in the Darkness

Chapter 2

"Miss, miss can you hear me?" Keira was unresponsive. "Okay, call time of death...2:04 AM." The EMT looked at her, "No, we aren't letting her die tonight." The EMT grabbed an adrenaline shot and jammed into her heart. " You realize you don't have the right to do that after calling time of death. You could lose your job!" "I have let too many people die on my wa-" The EMT was cut off by Keira gasping. "FUCK!" The EMT jumped back, "She's alive!" The EMT looked at the other and high-fived him.

Marcus burst into the the hospital room and the others looked up at him. "Ava." He glared at the others in the room, silently blaming them. Ave and Kye were sitting in chairs between Mallory and Iris's hospital beds, and Jasper was on the other side of Iris. "You little sacks of shit." Marcus was furious with the group. "Do you not realize how immature you guys are? You could've been killed and I most definitely wouldn't be the one crying at your funerals." "Marcu-" Ava was cut off by her brother giving another lecture. "You, you just shut the hell up you're dumb enough to run around with these imbeciles!" Ava's eyes began to tear up. Jasper's head shot up, "Watch your fucking mouth man. Read the fucking room." He was seething. Jasper looked at Iris's unconscious body, before looking back up at Marcus. "Guys we are all a little on edge can you just s hut the fuck up please." Ava had a pounding headache and the yelling wasn't making it any better.
"I have no one to blame but you Ava. You made the decision to be friends with them and look where that's gotten you!"  Kye watched Jasper shoot up out of his seat and shove Marcus to the ground. Kye quickly followed to pull Jasper off of him. "Jasper. Calm down." Jasper scoffed, "This asshole is lucky that I don't beat the li-" Jasper was cut off by Iris's monitor going off. Flatline. Jasper ran to her side and fell to his knees. Ava got up and sprinted to find a nurse. "HELP SOMEONE HELP! M...my friend's monitor flatlined." She stutters in disbelief. "Jess call a code blue!" "Code blue I need a crash cart to room b-37!" Ava's head felt fuzzy, everything began to move in slow motion. She collapsed due to the stress. "Crap Mark one's down over here get her up and get some IV's going, and get everyone out of that damn room!"

Everyone was ushered into the hallway, but Jasper. He leaned against the wall beside of her door and slid down. He put his head on his knees. Ava was taken into another room and Kye followed. "Sir you need to leave." Jess told Jasper "I-I can...can't she's all I have le-" "Sir I assure you we are going to do everything we can to save your friend, but for now it's best for you to leave this room!" Jess assured Jasper that it would be alright, causing Jasper to put his full trust into that team of workers. Jasper had never put trust into anything before, given the trauma in his childhood, giving him trust-issues, but this was the only time he would trust anybody was when it came to Iris, Iris was his person. Jasper nodded at her before getting up and walking into the hallway.

Marcus was sitting in Ava's hospital room, texting Reia.
'I might be a little late coming back my, sisters condition got steadily worse and her friends aren't looking too good either.'
'That's fine I'll come to see you!'
'No don't bother it's going to be a while I don't want to do that to you.'
'It's no trouble really besides I can help you get your mind off things!'

Marcus liked the sound of that. It was just what he needed, a distraction. Reia got her keys and walked outside. She noticed that her parents weren't home yet but shrugged it off. On her way to the hospital she got a call from the same hospital.
'Hello?'
'Is this Reia White?'
'Yes, It is.'
'We are sorry to inform you, but your mother Keira White is in ICU in critical condition.'
'Okay, thank you.'

Reia was oddly calm, but it was clearly a facade. She knew she had to text Marcus.
'Marcus. I'm not gonna be able to come see you, I'll be at the hospital but not in the same part.'
'Why? What happened?'
Reia couldn't handle responding to anyone right now so she turned her phone of and dropped it in the passenger seat.
'Reia?'
Marcus was worried.  Although, Reia and Marcus were just fooling around, it felt like more then that to him. He was developing feelings. He loved her. Does she feel the same for him? He had many questions, and doubts about himself. He feared that if he asked her to be with him, he would be rejected.
'Reia please talk to me, I'm worried about you.'
Marcus paused debating his next decision.
'Reia'
'I love you, I'm worried about you.'
Chills went down his spine causing his body to shiver.
"Did I just make a mistake?" He asked himself. Just then he heard something rustle behind him. He turned around and smiled.

Ava woke up and looked down at the IV's in her arm. "What the fuck just happened." Marcus walked up to her, "They said that you collapsed due to stress." "Stress. STRESS ARE THEY FUCKING STUPID!" Ava's tone began to rise along with her blood pressure "Ava calm down." "I AM CALM!" "I'm just gonna go get the doctor." "NO MARCUS GET BAC-" "DOCTOR!" Marcus tried to power over his sisters tremendous yelling. As the doctor walked in Marcus saw Reia rush by. He tried to chase after her but she turned a corner. He couldn't catch up to her and made his way to Ava's room. "Who was that?" Ava was curious and assumed it was her brothers lover. "Reia she's a really good friend of mine." Ava was starting to put the pieces together. "Do you think I'm stupid, if so you're an idiot. She's your girlfriend isn't she?" Marcus smirked, "She's not my girlfriend." he paused for a split second finishing his sentence seconds later, "At least not yet, I do like her." he poured his feelings out to his sister and was very confused as to why. "Oh my god you guys have been hooking up!" "Shut the fuck up!"  Marcus was pissed she put the puzzle pieces together. "What the fuck.. just happened?" Kye asked causing Ava to bust out laughing.

Jasper ran into the room. "SHE IS AWAKE!" He slapped the wall a couple times. "Come the fuck on!" He was bursting with excitement. He ran back into Iris's room. "I just came out of cardiac arrest and ya'll are running in here like fucking animals, I missed you guys too!" "It's different for us you could be dead-" "Hey that's no excuse!" Jasper was furious for them being so selfish. "Can you guys chill?" "LAST TIME I CHECKED WE WERE ALL IN THE ACCIDENT!" They all turned around confused as to who was screaming at them, it was Mallory. They all stood in shock, because as of two hours ago she was unstable. "LAST TIME I CHECKED YOU CAUSED I-" Marcus yelled. "Hey what's going on here?" A nurse came in concerned about all the commotion. "There are paitients in other rooms close to yours trying to rest!" "It's nothing we were just leavi-" Marcus was cut off by the nurse. "Not unless you have been discharged!" "Right." Ava was agreeing for the sake of her sanity or she was going to burst out with emotions.

Marcus pulled out his phone and began to text Reia.
'Hey meet me in the cafeteria.'
' I'm busy right now and besides the cafetira is closed it's three in the morning. Maybe we can go get some coffee in the morning?'
'Sure thing.'
Just then as he put his phone in his pocket the intercom beeped. A lady began to announce that there was a code grey- loss of utilities. Which could mean a number of different things.
