When the nights come I
Cling to the days of you.
You and all the many colors
Dancing in your eyes.
Hazel always looked so
Amazing painted there.
Oh when the dark
Sets in at least I have you.
The chilling, sad smile that
You do when you know
Someone's fucked you over.
The way despair settled in the
Back of your eyes and
Poured out by way of angry
Hands scrubbing lukewarm
Dishes in the kitchen sink.
Because even if I'm blindly
Scrambling through,
There were times with you.
Memories of jumping off
Your roof into that cool
Blue swimming pool.
The day we ran away
Into the woods and
Found that condom.
I made some phallic joke
That was awful and we
Walked until we stumbled
Out of the woods on
Some random side of town.
The sun was going down then
So we walked back to your place.
I remember the blank
Expression on your face.
If the sun explodes and I'm
Stranded in space,
At least I'll still have the
Image of your face in mind.
The way our friendship was
Simplistic, quiet, and stable.
The way being with you was
Stable and that wasn't
Something I'd ever known
Before. How was it possible
For people like us to build
Stability, when we'd never
Seen it? God it was a dream,
Even in the quiet things.
The sitting down watching
Netflix series or going
Hours in silence beside
Someone who you trust.
I don't know how to thank
You or what for maybe
Just the way you taught
Me what it means to love.
Proper love, the kind that
Doesn't come with requirements.
Love someone without
Having to physically or
Verbally express it.
Wherever you are now,
I hope you're loved
The way that you loved me.
