he's read the scripture thousands of times, he can recite the words in english, in latin ― the angel said to them, " be not afraid, for i bring you great news that will cause great joy for all of the people. " why else would the angel agreed to come with him, to be stowed away and brought back home ― it had to be an angel of God.
" for my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and i in them ― whoever feeds on this bread will live forever. " this scripture is quite the literal interpretation, and perhaps john never imagined God would show himself to him in such a precise manner, but without question ― it had to be God.
and yet, there had always been an underlying motive. perhaps he would have come back with this angel, back to this island, regardless, but ― he came back here for millie. for sarah. his family. God was giving john this opportunity for a second chance with his family, or at least this is what john tells himself. every night, he convinces himself ― even as he sucked the blood from joe's open skull, HE CONVINCED HIMSELF.
