"What the fuck do you think you're doing?"
I pried his hands off of her, shoving him a little. He stumbled back, off the curb. Lily stared at the ground and then where my hands were touching the slightly bruised marks. My thumb caressed them, glad he didn't break her arms.
Turning back around to him, I shoved him once more. "You don't do that to a fucking girl, you shouldn't even do that to anyone! She was begging you to let her go, didn't you see her damn tears?"
I pointed back at Lily's dull, but sparkly as always, eyes. They were slightly red and it made her look vulnerable. All Alex did was roll his eyes at the both of us, not seeming to have a care in the world.
"She was not, she was fine before you came here. She's crying by the amount of times I made her laugh," he walked closer, pointing at my chest. "Unlike you can, you can't even be around her without me always pulling up and stopping you."
He whispered the last part, alerting me that it is his intention to keep me away from her. By now, he was already grabbing ahold of Lily. It was as if she was his puppet he guided around and she couldn't do a single thing because her hands were tied.
"You're not actually going to go back into your house with him, are you?" She shrugged, having no option and staring at the ground. "My house is right next door and he won't be able to be allowed in there.. come on Lily.." I pleaded.
He pushed her lightly towards her front door, while he walked over to me. His puny self couldn't handle one bit of me, I was amazed at how he wasn't so intimidated. I could easily just knock him down.
"You listen to me, mate," he arched one eyebrow. "You either walk back into your poor ass house and leave her alone or I can get a few man to beat the shit out of you. Your choice.."
I hugged, my arms crossing my torso. "What's the matter? You can't do it yourself?" He rolled his eyes once again. "You can't do it either without your phone.."
He pat his back and front pockets of his jeans, searching for the silver skinny object in my hands. He glared at me once he realised it was his. As he began to pounce on me, Lily grabbed his forearms and held on.
I gaped at what I was seeing. She was holding him back and doesn't even look slightly hurt by him and his actions of what he did before.
"Alex, calm down.. just- we'll go inside and relax.." She sighed sadly, as he had a smug look on his face towards me.
Without thinking, I dropped his phone. "You're not even going to yell at him? You're not hurt by him? You're just going to let him control you like that? You're making it seem like he's the innocent one here and we both know he's not."
Alex cringed at the sound of his phone dropping, practically racing for it on the floor in Lily's arms. She sighed and nodded at me. I couldn't believe her right now, I thought she knew the differences from her rights and her wrongs.
Before he reached the phone on the concrete, I stepped down on it. A crunch and a shattering of glass was heard, followed by a shout from Alex. I kicked the damn device away from my feet and marched off towards next door, jiggling the doorknob.
"Ash-"
"Just leave me alone, you won't even stand up for the right one rather than the wrong one." I shouted, finally getting the door to open.
Once inside, I slammed the door shut and locked it. My foot jammed into the door, needing to release my anger out on something. I doubt my drum can handle me at the moment.
Running towards my bedroom, I picked up my ball. I was about to run to the field when my mum stopped me from doing so.
"Where are you going? Michael is right here and you're not going to stay with him?"
I huffed and dragged Michael by the back of his T-shirt, leading him down the street. He wouldn't stop complaining on how I was leaving a 'mark' on his armpits, so I let him go once we reached the field. We both jumped over the fence, Michael sitting down in the grass while I ran away from the net.
My feet kicked angrily at the ball, making a score that nobody was counting. Michael watched from afar, but grew concerned as the ball was getting dented more and more with my foot.
"Ash, what happened now?"
"Nothing happened. Why do you assume something always happened? Nothing fucking happened." I exclaimed, kicking the ball towards his direction.
Taking the bandana off, I scrunched my hair with my hand. A quiet yelp startled me, looking around the field. Then i realised the ball hit Michael in the groin.
"Sorry bud."
"Are you a dad now? Just kick ball somewhere else," he threw the ball back at me. I dont see how that makes me a dad but okay.
I just don't understand, whats so good about him that she always is on his side? He's literally a bag of shit. He hides her from the rest of the world. He's being selfish and thinks that she's property of him. She's a human being too.
"Do you think I should even bother saving her from that asshole? The only person she ever agrees with is him," I sighed, playing around with the ball in my hands.
Michael made a noise, indicating my logic was unreasonable. "Yes, obviously you are going to save her. Don't you like her? And I don't just mean like, I mean like."
"I just don't see the point in liking someone you have no chance with.."
"Maybe if you did something about it, you'd have a chance with her. Hell, she should be all over you for sticking up for her. Her brain is terribly messed up for not seeing everything good about you."
Smiling, I nodded my head. Michael's right. I'm going to make her see all of the things that she could be without him, all of the places she can explore. I'm going to make her see me. And I'm also going to make her see her best friend for who he really is.
..
"Hey Ash," Lily shyly smiled, clutching the white fence of her property.
Although it made me weak to hear her say Ash, I needed her to stop. I'm going to have to be tough about all the decisions in making. Its all part of a plan, a good plan. This plan will make her see me, I guarantee it.
"I'm sorry Lily," I unlocked my front door with the key. "but only my friends can call me Ash."
I glanced back at her, smiling awkwardly before heading inside and shutting the wood. The shock and hurt in her eyes made me weak again, but I promise, this is going to be worth it in the end.
