Truthfully, you didn't mind this.
Yes, it could be annoying at times. But honestly, the pros far outweighed the cons.
What am I talking about? Well, this... rivalry, I guess.
You were a feared Overlord in Hell. Despite your title, there was one demon that kept peskering you.
You didn't know who he was at first. You'd never really heard of him. But- ah, well. I guess it's better if I just show you what happened.
---
You were walking home from your latest slaughter, taking long strides toward the building that you had been accustomed to calling your home. You'd just been walking around your territory, looking around for any unsuspecting demons. Usually the new ones were the ones that failed to steer clear of your way, and you made sure they would regret that. Although, you can't really regret something when you're erased, can you? Your eyes caught something moving behind you, and you couldn't help the crazed grin that made it's way onto your face.
Really, now? Somebody trying to sneak up on me? You had thought then, barely stopping the amused chuckle that threatened to escape your lips.
You slowed down your pace just slightly, wondering what the anonymous stalker would do next. You didn't have to wait for an answer long, however, because just then you rounded a corner and almost bumped into a tall demon clad in red.
Your eyes narrowed slightly. Had you seen this one before? No, that couldn't be, you remember your associates very clearly, and everybody else? Well... there was no need for remembering dead people.
Your eyes scanned his figure. He was quite tall, 7 feet you assumed, and had unmistakable deer features. His eyes, his hair, his clothes, everything was red. You wondered if it was his favorite color. Probably. You could see a familiar glint in his eyes, one that you know because you had seen that glint in the mirror, and a grin that seemed stuck in place.
He opened his mouth to speak, but you gasped and snapped your fingers.
"You! You're that one demon that everyone keeps talking about!" He seemed to like the fact that you knew about him, and his grin seemed to widen ever so slightly. How, you had no clue.
You could practically hear his ego inflating, and he finally spoke;
"Yes, hello. I-"
"Al... ala... Alastair? Alastore?" You questioned, a thumb on your chin.
"My name is-"
"Ah! Alastor!" You'd finally recalled. Your amused grin showed clear signs that you were trying to piss him off, and quite frankly, it looked like it was working.
He seemed a little bit more annoyed, but nevertheless continued:
"Yes, that is my name. May I speak now?"
You nodded, grin still present.
His smile seemed to grow to its normal state, and you noted with an amused smile that he seemed to have the eccentric personality of a radio host.
"My name is Alastor, it's a pleasure to meet you dear, quite a pleasure."
He took your hand and placed a kiss on it, and continued swiftly, leaving no room for you to question his actions.
"I am an Overlord, like you. I believe you have something of mine." He asked, his eyes glaring at you dangerously, his smile speaking of acts of violence you yourself had committed plenty of times before.
"Ah, do I?" You asked innocently, bringing a finger to your lips feigning a thinking stance. Of course, you were well aware what you had stolen. You came across an old radio covered in dried splatters of blood, and taking a liking to it you decided to bring it home. Only later did you find out the Radio Demon had a habit of collecting old-timey radios such as these. Quite a shame, really, you had liked this one.
He didn't respond, but instead opted to pull you toward him, spinning you around and making you bump into the wall that was behind him.Getting dangerously close, you couldn't help but widen your grin at this exciting display. You had wanted to toy with this rising star for centuries now, and he had come right to you.
"I am inclined to believe you know exactly what I'm talking about, my dear." Alastor said, continuing.
"You stole what is mine, and I want it back."Deciding it would be amusing to toy with him even more, you said, gasping;
"Ah! I remember now! I'm quite sorry, my memory is not what it used to be.
I stole your heart, correct?"
Your grin was far from sane, and Alastor's grin was the funniest thing you'd seen all day.You could've sworn there was heavy static in the air, and Alastor cleared his throat.
"No, not quite, I'm afraid-"
You couldn't stop yourself from interjecting:
"Ah, apologies, you don't have one, do you? That was quite rude and insensitive of me."Alastor failed to respond, and stood there frozen, dumbfounded at your bold responses. He sure hadn't expected you to be so...
Attractive?
He cut himself off. This is competition! He chided to himself, scolding. Oh but, they were so breathtakingly beautiful. He had taken notice of the red stains adorning their figure the second he laid eyes on them, and couldn't help but smile at their gorgeous decoration.
"Well, I am running desperately late. I should get back to my home before my schedule gets too out of whack! Toodles!~" You sang, giving his nose a boop and walking off toward your house. You hummed cheerily to yourself, anything but oblivious to the static that was building up intensely behind you.
And that, is how this unrequited rivalry began. Alastor had started chasing you around like a lost puppy, trying to engage in fights constantly. And, after a while, you relented. Beating his ass was quite entertaining.
He still wouldn't leave you alone, however. This time, he was demanding your love.
You were sure this was going to be a long afterlife.
