Prince Alexander's POV
"Where have you been?!" Alex exhaled at the loud, commanding voice behind him and turned to see his father standing a few meters away, a scowl on his face.
"In town." Alex answered truthfully, tired.
"Do you have any idea how this will look when it gets out to the public and how the women who have already arrived, feel?" His father demands, irked. "What is wrong with you Alexander?...Why are you carrying on like this?"
Alex huffed. "Because I don't want to marry just yet. I'm only twenty years old dad. There is so much that I want to do before I settle down."
"It's a tradition that has been passed on from generation to generation. I did it, your grandfather did it and so did your great-grandfather, so you have no choice and that's final." King Stefan stated matter-of-factly in a serious voice that allowed no argument and walked off down the hallway.
Lifting a hand to his head, Alex rubbed his temple then stalked off back to his bedroom where he went over to his large bed and threw himself unceremoniously down on it, and screwed his eyes shut, taking deep breaths to calm himself down. Just as he was about to doze off to sleep, his phone began to ring in the pocket of his sweatpants, waking him up.
Reaching down to the pocket, he took out his phone and saw that it was good friend, Levi calling and answered. "Hello."
"Hi your highness, how is everything over there?" Levi answered. He lived over in England.
Alex rolled his eyes at the title. Only his close friends called him by his name and Levi was one of them but he liked to tease him.
"Uhh, just great." Alex lied. The more that he spoke about the arranged marriage, the more aggravated he will get.
"Good, good...listen, there is something that I wanted to tell you and I thought that it would be better if I told you myself than you hearing it from others."
"Okay, what is it?"
"Umm...Naomi and I are dating." Levi said hesitantly.
Alex eyebrows rose, he wasn't expecting that. "Oh...uh, okay that's fine."
"Yeah, look I'm sorry. I didn't mean-" Levi tried to explain himself but Alex interrupted.
"Hey, don't worry about it. She's a lovely person but we just weren't meant to be." He said.
He had gone out with her for about ten months over in London when he was studying at Cambridge University before they called it quits, after realising that they weren't comparable.
Levi released a relieved sigh. "Okay, thank you I just didn't want things to get weird between us."
"That won't happen. You always have my back and I have yours."
"Thanks mate, okay I'll see you later."
"Yeah. Bye."
There was a knock on the door. "Your highness?"
"Come in." Alex answered, watching the door before it opened and a maid walked in, a few years older than him.
"Your mother sent for you. Dinner is to be served soon." She told him.
Alex nodded his head. "Thank you, I'll be down shortly."
After the maid left, he walked into his closest and changed out of what he was wearing and into a pair brown long trousers, a blue striped plaid shirt with a woolly sweater over it and black moccasins, applied some cologne and roughly ran his hands through his hair keep his curls at bay before he exited his bedroom. Walking down the staircase, he heard light footsteps behind him skipping down the stairs so he looked over his shoulder and saw Brianna, in a lilac coloured knee-length A-line dress.
"Hey, I thought you were already in the dinning room." Alex frowned.
"No." Brianna shook her head, coming to stand beside her brother. "I was waiting for you so that we could go down together. I overhead some of the girls talking about you and I felt uncomfortable and left for my art room."
Alex's eyebrows came together in question, wondering what they were talking about it but didn't question it.
"Okay, come on let's go before mom grounds us both."
"She can't ground you anymore, you're an adult now." Brianna stated matter-of-factly to her big brother.
Chuckling, Alex wrapped an arm around her shoulder and they continued descending the staircase. She was very smart for her age. Once they both walked into the dinning room, they saw that everyone was there and waiting for them.
"My son, glad you could finally join us."
"I apologise for my sudden disappearance. Good evening Ladies." He said to no one in particular then turned to the eligibles, seeing that they were all familiar faces because they were close family friends of theirs.
The room was filled with the sound of chair legs been scrapped against the wooden floor as the eligibles all stood up and bowed at the Alex. There were five of them including Graciella.
"Your highness." They all chord simultaneously.
Bowing his head at them, he walked to the other end of the table which was now longer because of their extra guests and he could only imagine how much longer it will be extended when the rest of of eligibles arrive. The Queen usually sat at the other end but that was not the case now, as it was obvious that his parents wanted him to converse with the eligibles, so his mother sat to the right of his father and Brianna to the left. Then dinner was served.
