Apologies guys, I got caught up in work stuff and didn't post any chapter last week.

Alex

After breakfast with Brianna and the Queen, Alex got driven down to the airport to board the royal family's jet which would be taking them to the city, as he was to attend a conference with the Prime Minister and the diplomats from the United Kingdom.

"Here is the itinerary for today, your highness." Said Mitchell Hayes, one of the royal advisories as he handed over a portfolio to Alex. He was a tall, lean, dark skinned man with hazel eyes that stood out beautifully against his dark complexion.

Securing his belt, Alex picked up the portfolio and ran his eyes over the list. There were two important events that he needed to attend, the conference as well as another dinner.

"Excuse me sir, your highness?" Both Alexander and the Advisory looked up to see the plane's Captain.

Alex smiled at the elderly man. "Yes Captain."

"My apologies for disturbing you, but I just wanted to inform you that we are ready to take off." The Captain replied.

"Thank you, we may leave."

The flight was smooth and short, though Alex wished it wasn't that fast because the view was spectacular up in the air. The sun rising above the mountains casting its golden light on the hills, rolling plains, meadows and rivers was something Alex would never get tired of, nothing could beat this view.

They arrived in the capital city forty minutes later and the Prime Minister was already there waiting for them, with a police escort. After pleasantries, they drove to the Parliament where the conference would be taking place in an hours time.

"I understand that his highness, the King would be returning next weekend?"

"Yes and he sent his apologies, for not being here to attend the conference."

"Thank you, and we understand. Being the King comes many responsibilities...as will you, soon, your highness."

Alex let out a chuckle. "I hope I'll be as good as he is."

"You will your highness." The Prime Minister smiled kindly, wrinkled creases appearing at the corner of her eyes. "Your his son for a reason, just like he was the son of your grandfather. Who was a great King himself."

Alex glanced around and saw that no one was nearby then he turned back to the Prime Minister. "That is only you, the rest don't think I'm cut out to be the next King. They would rather have Bri, then me."

"Then show them." The Prime Minister encouraged. "I've known you since you were just a baby and there are many of us that support you, and know what you are capable of. People these days just look for drama and love to turn the smallest mistake in a catastrophe, purely for entertainment."

Before Catherine became the Prime Minister of the country twelve years ago, she used to be a Secretary to the royal family. Her twin daughters also went to school with Alex when there were younger, their names were Lucinda and Eloise.

Hearing footsteps approaching them, both Alex and Catherine looked forward to see the Secretarial Assistant. "Your highness, ma'am. We are ready for you?"

"We'll be there shortly, thank you Andrew." Catherine replied and with a nod, the young Secretarial Assistant turned and walked away. "Is it really time already?"

Alex glanced down at his watch and indeed, they had ten more minutes before the conference began.

"Time flies when you're busy."

"Indeed."

"Shall we?"

"After you."

Letting the Prime Minister go first, Alex took a deep breath and followed shortly afterward. While he was with his parents, attending events like this some of the affluent people hid behide pretentious masks feigning their loyalty and respect to him because of his parents, but he knew what lay behind those large mahogany doors now. A room full of judgemental gazes and harsh criticism.

He couldn't really blame them though, but he had never broken the law or did anything heinous that brought a bad look to his family, never. He merely just wanted adventure instead of being couped up in the palace that's why he rejected his duties as Prince, but as Catherine had said.

People these days love drama and will turn nothing into something.
