"how was the journey, y/n. i know a ferry may not have been ideal... but you know i had to get your across in a lowly manner. after all, cops may be at our feet but that doesn't stop them from trying to find loopholes."

"it's no problem, kaku, really. you know i was living quite a modest life back by odaiba beach." you chuckled over the phone, pulling the single change of clothes you had bought from your bag, as you lay dimly on the motel bed. "this room sucks though, i'll admit. smells like someone died around here." kakucho chuckled, as you basked in the sense of nostalgia and glory from hearing his laugh, "i can't explain how badly i missed your voice, kaku."

"i'll be there to pick you up in a few hours, i promise - takeomi just has to make sure your apartment at the shared building is secured, he's already called for a meeting tonight at the warehouse with all the executives."

"hmm, you still not willing to tell me who else is apart of bonten?" you edged, hoping to plead with your voice.

"no." kakucho muttered, a laugh stuck in his throat. "you can go a few more hours, plus, it will be a nice surprise - i'm sure." you grinned to yourself at the obvious smile in kakucho's voice. "i'll see you later, y/n. i can't wait to see you again." the phone beeped as the call ended. you leapt up off the bed, hopping on your feet a few times and clapping your hands with excitement as you ran to the old bathroom of the motel you were taking cover in, stripping off your clothes and rushing to shower down whatever was left of tokushima, and your shitty bartending job you held back there.

FOUR MONTHS AGO

"c'mon princess, paint a smile on your face and perk up that chest of yours a little. customers love to see you." you frowned at the sound of your boss trilling in your ear, a grim hand sliding down your bare back, making use of the skirt that hung just above your ass and the corset-tied top that covered just under half of your back. "he's a rich one, some small talk should keep getting you the tips you're used to." he stepped away from behind you, his attention now on the pool table just around the corner, "remember to push your elbows together too, not that your assets are already alluring enough." you cringed at the words in your ear as your boss whispered, before disappearing under the neon lights that left such a sickening and scandalous glow on your skin.

"sure thing, boss." you muttered to yourself, pressing on a few tabs as you pulled a whiskey glass from under the counter, filling it half-full with ice and to the rim with the burning liquor. "here you are, sir." you pushed the glass forward on the counter using just your pointer finger towards the man seated a foot away from you.

"thanks doll." he muttered, dabbing his cigarette out into the ashtray along the counter and downing his drink in one go. your glance fell to the scar across his eye, eyes that appeared lustrous under the purple and blue luminescence of the club. "i'll take another, grab one for yourself too, on me." his glance wavered across your abdomen and particularly across your chest.
