Chapter 7: Enough is Enough

{Mel's Pov}

"Good morning."

I sit down at the island. I watch as Roz makes breakfast.

"Morning." Says Roz with her back facing me.

"Can I ask you a question?"

"Go ahead." Says Roz

"What did I do to make you hate me so much? You've been giving me the cold shoulder ever since I got here. I'm starting to feel like I'm not welcome here."

"Now you get it." Says Roz

"I knew coming here was a bad idea."

"You wanna know why I can't stand you?" Yells Roz

She stops handling the food and faces me.

"From day one I just knew you were nothing. You never went to college, you don't have a job. You got pregnant and made my son a father at 19. Now you're trying to pin your baby to my son. For the life of me I can't understand why he chooses to waste his life away with you. When I look at you I see pure trash." Says Roz

I told myself before I got here that I wasn't going to let her get to me. But this is just too much. A girl can only take so much. 😔

I get up from my chair and exit the room.

I walk upstairs and enter the guest room.

By now I'm sure my eyes are blood shot red. I feel can my tears falling down my face.

I sit down on the bed and just stare at the wall.

{Shamoy's Pov}

I just had the best workout of my life. Man I miss this neighborhood. It brings back so many memories.

I walk into the house and smell cooking. I know that smell anywhere. Ma most be making her famous French toast.

I follow the scent into the kitchen.

"Morning baby." Says ma

"Morning ma. Breakfast smells great."

"Thanks it will be done soon. You can go get the kids." Says Roz

"Alright. Hey did Melanie come down yet?"

"Yes she did." Says ma

"So y'all talked?"

"More like I talked and she listened." Says ma

"Let me go check on her."

I leave the kitchen and head upstairs. As I get closer to my old bedroom I hear crying.

I walk into the room and see Mel crying.

"Bae what's wrong?"

"N-nothing. I'm fine." Says Mel turning her head in the opposite direction.

"Look at me."

I bend down in front of her.

"Please talk to me."

"She wins." Says Mel

"Who? What are you talking about?"

"Your mother. She made it very clear that she does not want you with me. Maybe she's right you can do better." Says Mel

"What are you saying?"

"I'm saying I have nothing left. I don't have the energy to keep dealing with this. I'm tired of her mental abuse. Always belittling me and making me feel like I'm beneath her. She is never going to change her mind about us. So don't even bother telling her that we're engaged. I'm sure she'll do everything in her power to destroy the wedding." Says Mel
