Gerard's pov

I look at the school in front of me. Newark High. I pale. I don't want to do this. I can barely see through the tears in my eyes. Mikey's trying to reassure me everything will be different.
"It's not gonna be like the last time, Gee." He said this morning.
My stomach churns. I think I'm going to puke.
I swallow the lump in my throat.
I grab my schedule and find my locker, depositing my backpack and grabbing a sketchbook and my favourite pens.
I find my classroom and sit down in the back.
The teacher announces my name and I stand up shaking.
"I- I.... Uhm.... I'm Gerard.." I say quietly.
The whole class is staring at me! My hands start sweating and I'm shaking. A boy with short brown  hair smiles at me. Should I trust him?
I smile back shyly.
The day goes on until 5th period- lunch. I look at the line and see Mikey. I run over.
"Hi Gee! How was the first half?"
I swallow.
"F- fine."  I stammer.
He smiles at me.
"Oh! My friend Frank said you can sit with us! He's really cool! I think you'll like him!"
I still am scared.
I follow Mikey to the table where the boy from my class is at.
"Hi Frankie! I invited my brother to join us!"
He immediately runs over, hyped on sugar.
"Hi! I'm frank! I love the misfits and play guitar!"
I'm taken aback.
I reach my hand out.
"Gerard."
"Mikey? Your brother is really cool!" He grins as he shakes my hand.
I feel my stomach churn.
Cool? I'm cool?
No fucking way. I'm too fat and disgusting. No one will want me.
I'm frozen. I push my lunch tray away and lie on my arms. The cafeteria is spinning.
"Gee?" Mikey looks at me worriedly.
"I'm gon' hurl..." I choke out.
I stand up and stumble to the bathroom and collapse on the floor of a stall.
Before I know it, Mikey's behind me, rubbing my back. I eject everything in my stomach and am holding it.
"Gee... a- are you okay?"
Tears are in my eyes.
"I'm not o-fucking-kay....." I sob, "I- I'm so fucking queasy...."
"Shit, this is my fault... I shouldn't have pushed you to come to school before you were ready. I'm sorry Gee!" Mikey panics.
"It- it's not your fault, Mikey. You didn't know how bad my anxiety attack was going to be. You were just trying to help me be a 'normal' kid again. I'm just too broken to be fixed..." I mumble the last part so he can't hear it.
Mikey can hear it, though. He looks at me, and grabs my hand.
"You're not broken, Gee.  You're traumatised. You had a earth-shattering accident and it's going to take a while to get better. What you're feeling is normal for someone with severe trauma." He reminds me. I notice I'm crying into the puke-filled water.
Christ I'm weak! Mikey runs a hand down my back as I sob. There's a knock on the door.
Mikey turns around. The boy from earlier is there.
"Class starts in ten minutes. I can tell the teacher you're taking care of a family emergency and both  will be late." He offers.
Mikey nods to the boy, "Thanks frank. That'd be great. I'm going to get Gerard some anti-nausea medicine from the infirmary. He can lie down for a bit. I think the morning was a complete shock to him. He needs something in his belly besides coffee and chocolate milk."
Mikey leads me to the infirmary and sits me on one of the beds.
The school nurse looks at us.
"Mikey? What's up?"
"My... my brother's sick. He's in shock and needs something in his tummy besides coffee and chocolate milk. He's really shaken up and needs some quiet. He's already threw up in the cafeteria bathroom. I think he needs some medicine for his stomach. He said he's been queasy all morning."
The nurse sits by me.
"So you're Mikey's brother? I've heard a lot about you from him. You are quite the artist, sir."
I smile slightly.
"He said you've felt sick all morning. Coffee can do that on an empty stomach, and I suppose chocolate milk can cause tummy aches when it's the only thing you've had all day. Maybe plain saltiness will help?"
She hands me two crackers.
"Thanks..." I mumble.
I bite into the cracker. My stomach hurts. It keeps rolling. I rub it and groan. I still feel sick to my stomach.
I lie on the bed and rub my angry tummy. I close my eyes.
Before I know it, the bell for 7th period rings. It's already 1?! Fuck! I've been asleep for an hour and a half?! I sit up a bit too quickly and feel extremely dizzy and nauseous.
I whine and clutch my stomach. The room is spinning faster than a merry go round. I cover my mouth and retch.
I'm not gon' make it!
I run to the infirmary bathroom and collapse in front of the toilet. Vomit shoots out of my mouth and nose like bullets. I groan.
"Mikey...where are you?" I sob before I vomit again.
The nurse comes in and gasps.
"I'll page your brother. He can drive you home. Sorry you're so sick your first day back." She sighs sweetly.
I turn back to the murky, vomit-filled water, and get ready for round 3....
— Mikey's pov—
I'm in algebra and there's been no sign of Gee! I hope he's ok! Frank exchanges a worried glance. I continue my book work when the intercom cracks.
"Mikey Way, please report to the infirmary."
I pale.
"Mikey?" Frank looks at me worriedly.
"I- it's Gerard. I- I gotta go..."
I gather my books and grab my backpack. I run to the infirmary.
I am greeted with the sight of my brother puking his guts out. I sit down and grab his shaking hand.
"It's okay, Gee. I'm here." I reassure him.
Gerard hiccups
"M-M-Mikey..! I- I- I'm s-s-so scared!" He sobs.
I rub his back and wait for another round of puking, but it doesn't come. I grab a mini water bottle.
"Gee, drink this. Small sips." I coax him.
Gerard sips on the water and looks green. I think he's going to be sick again.
"It's okay, Gee. Get it up..." I rub his back.
He vomits a few more times, then looks at me. His hair is sticking to his face, and involuntary tears streaming down his face. I wipe away the puke stuck to his face.
"Think you can stand up? I'll grab your backpack and sketchbook. I can sign you out, then drive you home. Okay?"
Gerard nods, "okay. My stomach doesn't feel as nauseous now. I still feel queasy, and my stomach keeps rolling. I'll be f- fine..."
I walk Gerard out of the infirmary and sign him out at the front desk.
The receptionist looks at us.
"Oh, Mikey. What's wrong?"
"It's not me. It's Gerard. He's really sick. He needs to go home, the nurse said I can drive him home."
He glances to Gerard and smiles sadly.
"Poor guy. He needs his rest."
I scooped up Gerard and carry him to his car. I set him in the back and climb into the drivers side. I call mom.
"Mom, Gerard is sick. He's been queasy all day, and he's puking a lot. I'm driving him home. I'll be home in 15."
I end the call and glance at Gerard in the rear view mirror. He's ghostly pale, and quite green. He's swallowing rapidly.
"Gee?"
"P- pull over! I'm gonna vomit!" He barks.
I swerve to the shoulder of the road. Gerard whimpers.
"I'm sorry. Do you think you can make it to the grass?"
Gerard shakes his head.
"No... I have a bad bellyache. I just wan' puke and pass out for a few days."
I help him over to the grass as he shakes.
He goes rigid as he heaves. I rub his back as a sob escapes him.
"You're okay, Gee. Get it out."
Gerard finishes throwing up then climbs back in the car.
I drive home and Gerard looks sick to his stomach again.
"Gee? Gotta puke?"
He closes his eyes, trying to get his inner ear to register that he wasn't moving anymore.
"Mikes.... I don't feel good..." he groans.
I see our mom in the doorway, looking extremely worried.
Gerard clutches his angry belly, moaning.
It takes a solid 20 minutes to get Gerard to his room. Mom hands him a pot to catch the vomit.
He pulls the Star Wars covers over his body.
He's shivering. Mom grabs the thermometer and coaxes Gee to open his mouth.
Two minutes later the thermometer beeps.
"Oh, honey! You're burning up!" Mom gasps. Gerard closes his eyes and moans.
"How's your tummy doing Gee?" I ask.
"Euuugggghhh.... I'm gonna spew...." He groans, suppressing a retch.
Mom hands him the pot and positions him so he doesn't barf all over himself.
He retches a few times.
"My guts are all mushy. I feel sick to my stomach..." he stifles a sick burp.
"It's okay, just go." Mom reassures him.
I go to the bathroom and grab a washcloth of cold water. I come back to the sight of Gerard vomiting into the pot as mom rubs his back.
I kneel by my sick brother.
"Gee?" I whisper, "Can you sit up so I can try to get your fever down?"
Gerard whimpers, "My belly's upset..."
"Oh, buddy. I know. You'll feel a bit better after I wipe away the puke and sweat." I try convincing him.
He pushes the pot away, not wanting to look at his stomach contents anymore.
I wipe his mouth and lie the washcloth on his neck. He whines.
"Shh, it's just cause you got a raging fever and your tummy is real sick.." I soothe him.
"Mikey.... I've fallen hard... for Frankie...." He chokes out before another round of puking grips him.
He's in love with Frank?!
I rub his back as he continues to puke. He finally passes out in his bed and I go to start my homework, thinking of how confused and scared Gerard must be. Poor guy....
