PAIGE POV

"Paige! Can you meet me at my office, I need to talk to you!" my dad calls from downstairs while I'm in my room browsing my phone and dreading tomorrow.

I go downstairs our way too big of a house to find myself at my dad's office door, I knock.

"Come in" my dad yells from the other side.

I walk in like I have done, not too many times before actually. He's always busy so this is a fairly rare occasion. I sit down on one of the brown leather seats by his fire place.

He's office is just like you would imagine a man's office would look like. It's darker than the rest of the house. It has one of those strays with high quality liquor, and a large wooden desk in the middle. And let's not forget that big chair. It's a little extra if you ask me, but it's his place what am I gonna do about it right.

I'm seating on the chair getting myself comfortable to hear what he has to say. "Ok so you're starting school tomorrow right?" he says while poring himself a drink from the liquor tray in the corner and serving me a glass of water.

"Yes, super exciting" I say with a sarcastic tone.

"Exciting indeed."

"Yeah, well, what is this about?" I say trying to get to the point.

"Ok so I guess I'll just start with a bit of back story. So you know how I build a whole empire from scratch right." He says while he walks to sit on the other leather seat in front of me and placing the drinks on the small glass coffee table in front of us. "Well, there's something that I need to tell you, about how that came to be."

"Wasn't it just hard work and dedication like you've always told me?" I say feeling somewhat bored and not knowing where this is going.

"Well yes of course it takes that too. But our family has... a gift? I don't know if I would call it that but it's definitely something." He says looking nervous.

"Okay... I don't see where this is going" I say still feeling confused.

" Okay, well I'm gonna come on and say right away. Every first born of our family has the gift of returning in time." He casually says with an awkward smile, trying to figure out how I would react.

"Ha ha, yeah sure." I say jokingly obviously assuming this is a joke.

"Ok I know it weird but it's true"

"Ok well... how?" I say. It's hard to process but with my first reaction, assuming this was a joke, I remember that my dad isn't so much of the joking type so it gave me more reason to believe it.

"Well it's simple really, you have to think of the time you want to return to and you'll go." He says.

"That can't be. I've read enough books and watched enough movies to know there has to me some other stuff." I say rolling my eyes and taking sip of my drink.

"Yeah right. Well you need to have physical contact while to return." He says seriously.

"Physical contact?"

"Yeah, so when you think of that time you want to go to, you have to be touching a living creature to make it... work" he says explaining the process.

"Ok... let's try it" I say going along with it. "Give me your hand" I tell my dad, stretching out my hand.

"No, actually, we can't do it together because then you'll take me with you since I also have the ability" He explains. "He use Lola." He says handing me our cat that was hanging out with us. I take her from his hands and hold her in my lap waiting for my dad to give me more instructions. "So, you also have to know that you can only go back up to 24 hours before the fact" he says being really serious.

"Ok cool got it" I say not actually believing any of this.

"Ok so look at the clock over there" he says. We both look at it and it's 5:43 pm. "I'm gonna ask you to think about three to five minutes ago" he says.

"Ok sure" I say holding on to Lola and closing my eyes. Will all my 'strength' I think about 5:40 pm.

There's a small shake in my gut and I feel a weird push. It feels like air? Or maybe pressure? Or just movement?

I can't think, or maybe I can. Am I thinking right now?

All I can see and hold on to is the image of 5:40 pm in my mind. The idea and just concept in general of that specific time.

Before I know it, I open my eyes. I'm still in my dad's office and Lola is not on my lap anymore, she is happily walking around the office and my father is in the corner of the room serving himself a scotch and a glass of water for me? I look at the glass coffee table and it's empty.

And when I look at the clock...

5:40 pm

I think I might be dreaming, this can't be. It suddenly hits me when my dad turns around with the drinks. I sink deeper into the leather seat with my knees up to my chest.

"OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD!" I start the yell.

Calmly my dad says " Oh good you tried it out, I'm glad I didn't have to deal with it."

"What in the actual fuck just happened?!" I say confused and just- what?!

"You returned to a few minutes before" he says as if it was the most normal thing ever.

"Yeah no shit." I say still in shock. I take a deep breath. "Ok so what now?" I continue with a calmer tone.

What just happened and why am I not spending more time freaking out about it? I've always been a relax kind of person. I guess that comes with the genes considering I was destined to have to deal with this.

"Well, as you can see, you can return in time, I'm telling you this so you can start using this to modify your life in a smart way so you can have a good future. I did it, your grandfather did it (but failed), your great grandmother did it. Now it's your turn" he says with pride.

"What do you mean with 'failed'?" I ask.

"Well, you obviously have to be careful on how you use this ability. You can't go too over board or get too cocky. I'm trusting you to use it smartly and build a good life." He says with sincerity in his voice.

"Ok yeah, I can do that... I can use it whenever I want? With physical contact?" I ask, referencing what my dad told me in the last... 'page'?

"Yes, you've always been an amazing kid and I trust you to use it wisely. If you need help you can always tell me." He says with a small smile, taking a sip of his drink.

"Ok who else knows this?" I ask

"Only the one with the gift; Me, you, grandpa Pete, and granny Poppy" he says only mentioning the ones that are still alive I guess.

"Ok so if I have kids, the first one will be able to do this?" I ask

"Yes" he says clarifying my doubts

"Okay... this is... cool" I say with a small nervous smile. I take the glass of water as fast as possible and chug it.

"Ok, that's all I wanted to talk to you about. You can go back to your room and get ready for your first day of school tomorrow." He says finishing our talk.

"Okay... thanks dad" I says, getting up and heading towards the door.

"Bye sweetie, love you" he says while I'm walking out.

"Love you" I says while I leave his office and head back to my room.
