- - -Almost a full year after Sophie was rescued by Lady Gisela, she was finally assigned a mission. She had been begging Lady Gisela for one since the day she was let into the Neverseen, but she had been denied the permission in order to train and learn about the elven world. It had benefited her in the end, but she was still a bit bitter about it. Though she was glad that Lady Gisela had rescued her and not the ones who had created her, she had been told that they had created her as someone to inflict destruction and destroy the values of the elven world. But now she could help take them down and prove to the Council that The Neverseen wasn't a group of no-good rebels, but the heros.
"You are to go to Foxfire and gain any information possible, you will not cause trouble, you will not give away information, you will be the perfect spy. Got it? You're being trusted with this, Sophie, don't let us down."
Today was the day, she had learned all about elven culture and, of course, their school. Foxfire. She pulled on the uniform—an amber coloured vest over a black tunic paired with a brown and amber plaid skirt. And of course, the cape. All elven clothing had capes, and even though she'd been living with it for a year, Sophie found them ugly. But she put it on nonetheless and fastened it with a pin before heading to the entrance of their hideout. There, Lady Gisela was waiting for her with a leaping crystal on hand.
"Here you go, Sophie." She said as she handed it to the blonde girl. "Step into the light, and have a good day at school."
And away she went.

Arriving at Foxfire, Sophie walked down the halls trying to find her way to class when she walking right into someone.
"Sorry." The person said as they held out a hand for her, she didn't take it, instead standing on her own. As she met the person's eyes she noticed they were a periwinkle blue, similar to hers after Lady Gisela had forced her to take the elixir so people wouldn't question her very different—very brown— eyes.
"It's alright," Sophie said. "I wasn't watching where I was going."
"You're also going in the wrong direction," The boy said. "Orientation is this way." He grabbed her hand and led her down the hall to a large room filled with students.
"My name's Dex by the way." She tried to offer him a smile back, remembering what she had been told about making friends and fitting in. It was hard to learn information when you didn't talk to anyone, especially if they didn't trust you.
"I'm Sophie."
"Huh, that sounds like a human name."
"My parents are really into human culture."
"Cool."

By the end of orientation she had successfully befriended Dex, and he had also given her a run down of the people she should definitely not talk to because they were mean and way too popular—according to him.
During lunch Sophie sat with him and another girl named Marella Redek, she seemed nice enough though she had a fair share of gossip which came in useful to learn who may or may not know anything about the Black Swan. Sophie was wondering if maybe she would be a good addition to the Neverseen when she saw someone staring at her out of the corner of her eye.
"Hey, Marella?"
"Yeah?"
"Who's that guy over there?"
She turned and looked to where Sophie had pointed out and she rolled her eyes. "That's Fitz Vacker, most popular guy in school, you don't have a chance with him. No one does."
Fitz. That name sounded familiar.
"Ugh," Dex announced, rolling his eyes. "I hate that guy. He thinks he's so great."
Ah. So that was where she had heard it before, Dex had mentioned him in his list of people to stay away from.
The rest of the school day passed by without much trouble, she didn't talk to many other people and she definitely didn't learn anything useful, but it was a good day.
"How was your day?" Lady Gisela asked when Sophie returned to the hideout.
"I made friends with someone named Dex, periwinkle eyes and strawberry blonde hair. Nothing else really happened."
"Dex?" Gisela muttered under her breath. "Dex Dizznee, maybe? Sophie, you have some training to do with Alvar today, you can go meet him now."
"Okay."
Sophie headed down the the designated training area, where she assumed Alvar was. As she grabbed some weapons from the ground he appeared out of thin air beside her, making her scream.
He just laughed as she smacked his arm. "Don't do that to me!"
"C'mon," He said, still laughing. "I thought you would be used to it by now."
"Well clearly I'm not!"
He shock his head as they both smiled before he tossed her a cloak. She caught it and quickly threw it around her shoulders, clasping it with her new Foxfire pin as Alvar led her to the door.
"We're going outside for this one, follow me."
Once they got outside—and Sophie got done glaring at Alvar after she discovered it was raining—they began training. Alvar explained that he was going to teach her how to spot a vanisher in different settings.
"Rain can be both easy and hard, it's hard for someone to hide when the rain falls in odd patters where they're standing, but it's also hard for someone to spot someone when they can barely open their eyes." He vanished and Sophie squinted at where he had been moments before, unintentionally proving his point. "Now, I want you to find me as I move around, and don't even think about reading my thoughts." He added the last part when he saw her close her eyes.
"Fine." Sophie said with a sigh, after a long day at school this was last thing she wanted to do.
But despite her reluctance it turned out to be not too difficult and they ended the session earlier than normal. The two chatted about how she was liking Foxfire while they made their way back inside."Wait," Sophie stopped. "You have siblings?"
"Yeah."
"And they go to Foxfire?"
"Yes, I thought I already told you this?"
"I think I would remember if you told me something like that. What are their names?"
"Fitz and Biana. You probably wouldn't know Fitz, he isn't in your level, but Biana is in the same level as you."
"Wait, Fitz as in Fitz Vacker?"
"You know him?" Alvar looked surprised. "He's not in your level."
"He's the most popular guy in Foxfire, of course I heard his name. But he was staring at me really weird at lunch today."
"Has Sophie Foster caught my brother's eye." He teased as she blushed and shoved him.
"Shut up."
He continued to tease her all the way back and they both laughed until it was time to sleep.
