It had been many years since monsters joined civilization upon the surface. It was going well until some monsters and humans started to develop unknown abnormalities.
It was almost like fairytales had become real, it was so odd...
Creatures existed in the ocean, others could with in the sky when they couldn't have before. Some even lurked with in the woods, scaring people and other unchanged monsters that would creep into them.
Even stranger was the time they were in, and what little accomplishments civilization still had, and had yet to achieve. It was like they were stuck between times of progress, and times of not so much...or more times of no longer.
But at the moment that didn't matter, because it was still morning and it didn't really have to yet.
"Hey Ink is Blue ready to go!?"
Dream yelled to his brother, finishing getting himself dressed and leaving his room. Ink and Blue were in the living room, Ink helping Blue put on the rest of his clothes.
"Ink I don't need help!-"
"Yes you do! You almost got us caught a few days ago!"
"That was once!"
"Guys..."
Hearing Dream's voice, the two stopped yelling and looked over at him.
"Hey Dream..."
"Hi Blue...please stop yelling at Ink he wants to help..."
"I know!- It's just my wings hurt and itch when they're in my shirt..."
Blue's wings buzzed under his shirt
"I know but you know what people will think...to them we're nothing but changed..."
"Yes but we're almost the same as all the other monsters-"
"But we aren't... You were kids when I figured that out..."
Blue didn't argue that time, but Dream definitely said something.
"Don't talk like you're our parent...you weren't that much older than us..."
"We took care of one another-"
"But to be frank Dream, Ink... Ink worked and got us food when he didn't have to...he did raise us more than anyone else ever did..."
"Thank you Blue...and I'm happy to know I had a good influence on you both."
Tugging Blue's shirt down the rest of the way, Ink spun him around before hugging him.
"Have fun today, I know you like working at the little shop down the road. We just don't want you to loose it."
"I know and thank you..."
"Ok Blue, you ready?"
Letting go of Ink, Blue saw Dream with his jacket.
"It's getting cold, you need this"
"Ok! I'll see you guys later, I don't wanna be late!"
"Neither do we, and bye!"
Blue waved bye to Ink and Dream before running out the door, it slamming behind him and leaving Dream and Ink in their small home.
"I wish I could help you guys...more than this..."
"Ink..."
"Maybe I could get a job again, that'd-"
"Ink!"
Ink stopped, letting Dream breath before starting to speak again.
"Me and Blue love you...and you did and do enough for us... And more importantly I don't want you to have another episode..."
Ink groaned, knowing Dream was just being reasonable. His episodes got him in trouble before, even though his bottled emotions were helping they only did so much...even making him worse at times...
Dream felt a little bad about using Ink's problems as leverage, so he tried to make things at least a little bit better before he had to go.
"Look if you want to help then go out and get some food from the market, or clean around the house... But know that Blue is right...you practically raised us both...and you did enough... So you do that then hang out with Error...alright?.."
"Fine, if having fun is the price I have to pay for being a little weird...then fine... Have fun at work."
"I wish work was fun, and the docks are really cold now a days so I have to be careful..."
"Please do"
"I will, and you please have some fun today."
"Will try, but I can never promise"
"Fair... Anyways your meds are on the counter, call if you need anything. I'll see ya later."
"Alright...bye"
Ink waved Dream bye, watching him leave the house to go work at the docks.
The docks tended to be hard work for higher pay than most other jobs now a days, that being why Dream chose to work there. Well that and because he wanted Blue to be able to choose what he wanted to do with his life instead of focus on stuff like this.
Dream got there rather quickly, and got tasked to do something almost just as fast. He was moving some box's that were going to be transported when he saw one of the cargo ships start to dock. He stopped what he was doing to look at the massive beast of a ship, his boss seeing this and choosing not to do much to stop him.
"I would say we don't have all day but really we do... I just don't get what you like about those ships so much kid..."
"I'm not a kid...and I just like them...and the thought of being on one some day...it'd be cool..."
"I guess...if anything it'd be a lot more interesting than this..."
"Maybe... But then again I have heard that the current those ships make lure-"
"You think boats lure creatures? Ha! If it were that easy we would've rounded all of those ocean ones up by now. Nothing is that easy, not for anyone now a days."
Dream could only chuckle nervously when he heard that comment, knowing full well that if he got caught being what he was on those docks then he would probably be bludgeoned with piece of wood.
But ignoring that fact like he had many times before, Dream focused his attention back on the boats.
"I know...but I wouldn't be on one of those to because it would be easy, or because it would attract creatures... I would do it so I could see other places, I've heard that they've traveled to places that could only be described as otherworldly..."
"They've gone far, that's about it... And to be frank we were doing so much easier before that kid brought all of you monsters out of that pit...no offense..."
"No I get it...I wasn't around then though...wish I was, would've said something before things got this bad..."
"Wouldn't we all..."
Dream took a step closer to the boat and the sea before him, the dock creaking for a response and warning. Dream didn't listen to the carefully arranged wooden planks, and took another step closer. He thought he knew where he was stepping, and how far he was on the docks. He thought he was still on the safe point of them when in reality...he was not...
By the time his superior noticed though it was to late, a strong, cold gust of wind brought waves that rocked the floating two by fours holding Dream above the sea just enough.
...*Creeeeeeeek*-...*Snap- CRACK*
"Fuck..."
The first thing that fell through the boards were Dream's legs, easily followed by the rest of his body that crashed through the rest of the old wood. His body hit the cold water like a tone of bricks as he heard people scream and call to him, yet he could not respond, his body having already tensed up due to the freezing temperatures of the water that should and very well could be his death...
