Short chapter

The sterile air hit him hard as he woke up. Standing around him were surgeons and nurses, all dressed in black, contrasting against the bright white setting. They all parted as Snake stepped through.

"Well, well, Peter," he said with a sneer. "You really thought I wouldn't know? You've almost found out before, but we took care of that. This time you actually found out. What I don't understand is how would you find a file about the arachnid project in the lowest level offices."

Peter just stared back, but it wasn't the usual dark spider stare. In his eyes was raw emotion— all of this thoughts and feelings were revealed. There was realization, sadness, anger, and hurt spiraling through the darkness of his brown eyes.

The snake stared back. "Go ahead." He nodded to the doctors and handed them a big needle. Then the snake left the room, leaving silence behind him.

There was a sudden rush of memories. He remembered laying on the table before, people dressed in black staring down on him. It seemed that every time he got close to his true identity, he would end up back on the table, unable to move.

"Memory removal of the last twenty-four hours. Sixth time this year," A doctor said, looking through a binder. "Patient is project arachnid, subject 42. He's getting close to the limit for memory removals and will be terminated if he gets too close one more time. You may proceed with the injection."

There was a sharp pinch and he was out for the second time that day.
