of fireworks and pride parades

A cacophony of drums, screams and chants drifted across the streets of Liyue, as flamboyantly and colorfully clothed people, old and young, marched across the street, waving flags of rainbows and similar color schemes. Chalk bombs exploded, dusting kaleidoscope-ish hues on the enlivened paraders.
Yanfei looked up from her book.
She shook her head and walked across the room, turning up her calming music and closing her blinds. She had never been big on celebrations.
She tried unsuccessfully to divert her focus back to her book. But alas' the chants were too loud and the lights too bright. Begrudgingly, Yanfei got up from her comfortable position on her rocking chair and picked up her phone. 12 missed messages from friends and family alike, all asking if she was joining the parade.
She sighed melodramatically, not really for anyone but herself to hear.
She could do this, right?
Maybe there's a chance she would see the vivacious funeral parlor worker.
She gagged at herself, walking over to her vanity to snatch up pink, purple and blue eyeshadow palettes.
Perfunctorily drawing a bisexual flag on both her cheeks, the bright colors incongruous to the rest of her outfit, she descended into the first floor of her house and slowly pushed open the door.
Immediately, she was overwhelmed by a myriad of people, drums, chants and chalk. She took a deep breath and stepped out into the street, trying hard to follow the flow of people and not fall over.
She did just that for a few minutes, nervously shuffling around, trying to spot familiar faces among the crowd. She facepalmed hard, regretting her decision to join the parade.
She stumbled through the streets, utterly lost and going against the flow of the crowd, trying so hard, just to get back to her house, when a small hand tapped her on the shoulder.
"You're Yanfei, right?" A voice said, yelling over the incessant chants of paraders.
Yanfei whirled around to be faced with a young girl, dressed in all black, a pansexual pride flag draped over her shoulders. It was Hu Tao.
"Y-yeah! Hi, Hu Tao.." Yanfei stuttered back, cheeks immediately turning red.
"I saw you panicking, are you okay?"
"Yeah, I came alone and was tryna find my friends." Yanfei said loudly, half telling the truth.
"Oh, I came alone too! I mean, I came with Xingqiu and Chongyun but I left them after the like what- thirteenth kiss they shared. Same with Xinyan and Xiangling. Made me feel single as fuck."
She's pan and single she's pan and single she's pan and single.
Holy smokes.
"Yanfei? Hello? Did I overshare? I'm so sorry-"
"No! I mean, no, not at all. Uhm, since we're both alone and all that do you maybe wanna parade together, like you don't have to accept and all that and I'm-
"Yeah! Sure!" Hu Tao exclaimed, grabbing Yanfei's hand, (definitely drawing out the butterflies, no, the fucking peregrine falcons, flying around in her stomach.) Hurry up, the fireworks are ready to start! We have to get to the harbor to get a good view!"
"Y-yes! Coming!" Yanfei yelled back, stumbling over her legs to follow the brown haired girl. She glanced at their intertwined hands, admiring the various rings that the other girl had on and her usually black nail polish, now painted the colors of the pan flag. She looks over to her other hand, twirling in the air, the once-draped flag following suit. Stop, Yanfei! It's creepy to be admiring her hands.
"Hey! That looks like a good seat!" Hu Tao gestured over to a bench facing the ocean, snapping Yanfei out of her reverie. She let go of Yanfei's hand and rushed to sit down, hand firmly pressed to the wood, saving her friend her seat.
Yanfei gingerly sat down, just in time for the fireworks to begin. The rest of the crowd gathered around just as the first firework exploded in the night sky, leaving a trail of bright purple sparks lingering.
The fireworks fulminated one by one, earning cheers and whoops from the crowd each time, Yanfei wasn't looking at them though. Her eyes were fixated on the girl next to her, watching her eyes shine, reflecting the dazzling colors of each firework.
Daringly, she inched her hand closer to Hu Tao's, not noticing that the other's eyes were now on her.
"Yes, we can kiss." Hu Tao said, rolling her eyes playfully.
"What?"
"Huh- oh my Archon, shit shit shit, I'm so sorry- I didn't mean-"
Yanfei just laughed, cupping the amber eyed girl's cheek and leaning in, immediately shutting her up.
"It's frustrating how self-effacing you can be."
"a billion fireworks couldn't light up my world like you do"
