Jaelyn POVthe team ended up losing in a double overtime it was a close game but one of the players from Montreal caught Kaden off gaurd and it went in. i wasnt sure what kind of mood he would be in when we went to meet up, i almost wanted to cancel diner and say we could do it later.
"what a close game they played really well" dad wasnt wrong. they played well and had some great shots on net.
"ya i am sure it's got to suck to lose in OT like that" Bentley says.
"ya but when he gets out can we not talk about it?" i asked my family. i didn't want Kade to be talking about this and be upset.
mom was smiling at me, and it was kinda weirding me out.
"why are you smiling at me like that" i raised my eye brow at her.
"i can't just smile at you?" she contradicted me.
i just shrugged in response.
"so where are we going for diner?" Ben asked me to chance the subject.
"i don't know Kaden picked it" i tell them. he wouldn't tell me what he has planned but i sure it would be good.
about twenty minutes later Kaden walked out of the rink, i could tell he was bummed out. but i knew he was putting on a good face for my family.
"hey" i smiled at him.
"hey, so i am not sure what you guys like for food. but there is this really good diner around the corner. they have good food" Kaden announced to my family.
"sounds good" My mom nodded.
"alright you guys can follow me" Kaden says.
"i will ride with you" i tell him i wanted to talk to him.
everyone nods so we all go to our cars. Bentley drove with my parents so he goes with them.
"you okay?" i asked as we got in his truck.
"ya i am okay" he nods.
"you know that we don't have to do this diner if you don't feel like it right." i tell him.
"i know but honestly i am okay. i know it's crappy we lost. but i also know we can't win them all. besides i would rather be with you then be alone. so i am okay" he claims.
"okay" i smiled and he grabbed my hand in his.
the drive to the diner wasn't long it was like five minutes away.
"they have really good milkshakes here" Kaden tells us all as we where walking in to the restaurant.
it was pretty busy, but that's it be expected on a Friday. we got a table pretty quick. and i could tell the hostess was a bit star struck.
"so Kaden do you have any sibling?" mom decided to start the questions.
"ya i have a younger brother and sister that are twins." he tell her with a smile.
"oh wow" was moms response.
"and where are you from?" mom kept going.
"i am from Alberta, i grew up in a town just out side of Calgary." he informed.
"is your family here with you?" she asked.
"no they still live over there, they would like to move here. but my dad owns a restaurant so he's pretty set there. but i try to get home as much as i can." he explained.
"so what about you are you guys from here?" Kaden asked my parents.
"i was born here yes" my mom nodded.
"i was born in Nigeria, moved to toronto at a young age then came to Vancouver for school and then never left." dad explained.
"wow Toronto that's a long ways. do you still have family there?" Kade asked.
"Just my brother, my parents retired and moved back home. but my brother and i stayed. but he is content in Toronto." dad tells Kaden.
" ya he stayed because i was born" Bentley piped up.
"not just that i was happy here." Dad added.
Kade was about to reply but was cut off by a cute little boy who couldn't be older then ten came over to the table.
"i know your busy, but could i get your autograph?" he looked nervous and his parents who where at the door watched him.
"sure buddy what's your name?" Kade asked with a bright smile.
"Jessie" he whispered and handed Kade a pen and a napkin.
Kaden quickly wrote down on the napkin, and handed it back to him with a smile.
"here you go Jessie, have a great day" he smiled and it melted my heart to see.
"thanks" he was grinning and ran over to his mom.
"dose that happen a lot?" bentley asked.
"not as much as you would think. which i am glad. because it's so weird to me that people want my autograph or a photo. but for young kids like that i don't mind. i know i am making there day so it makes me happy to see them happy. especially cause i know how exciting it is to meet your favourite player as a young kid." Kade tells us.
"i think it's sweet you could just see he was so excited" mom was right he was grinning.
"what did you write?" i was curious.
"i just wrote so nice to meet you Jessie your friend Kaden Miller" he says.
"did you really give one of your sticks to a kid? i didn't see the video but i read it in a article" Bentley asked.
"yes i did" Kade say.
"why did you give your stick away?" mom looked shocked.
"he has a sign that said he was learning to play goalie because of me. so i gave him my stick i even autographed it." he tells us.
"that's so sweet" mom was smiling.
"ya it was trending all over the internet. and then my brother called me, because he wants one of my sticks. when i first got drafted i got a custom made stick it was a great stick. but i was so worn out. so i just keep it in my room back home. and he wants it, for what i have no idea but i refuse to give it to him. it was my first ever pro hockey stick." Kade had a smile on his face as he told us this story.
"i think it's great that you do stuff like that. especially for kids, not a lot of players do that" my dad wasn't wrong.
"i try to give pucks to kids to, throw them over the glass of just hand them off. it's just so great to see the smile on there face." Kade was smiling as he was talking. you could tell that he really cared about his fans.
