(Protagonist's Pov)
My life was never the way I wanted it to be. To begin with, I was never the best in my class. I had always been a disaster at many things. I was not the best at sports, I was not the best at math or computers, and sometimes I was so clumsy that I messed things up. My best consolation was games, but my family always told me to stop being so childish. However, my fears were also related to my future. What if I am not able to face the challenges that are coming? He was a coward.
I was just getting through the exams and getting ready for another boring year. Also, I was not happy with my life. No, I wanted something totally different from a normal human, even for once and for a while.
Another point of view that bothered me was the most important philosophical question:
Who was I really? Why do I feel like I don't fit in? Why don't I have someone special in my life? I would like to know if I am something else or if I can really be or do something better.
I entertained myself for a while by playing the game 'The Legend of Spyro, Dawn of the dragon'. That game always made me feel better, because I was always a great admirer of dragons: their anatomy, their powers, their world... it would be an illusion to see a real one. Furthermore, from what she saw in him, they fought against evil by protecting and respecting their world for real. Sometimes I imagined myself being in the game, helping them ...
"And they will live happily in a new era, one of peace and adventure, " I thought, looking at the end, "Nice ending. Heck, how I would like to know what is going to happen next. I would like to see this new era "
I returned to my reality, thinking that that would be impossible. Sleep was consuming me, so I put down the computer and went to bed. I fell asleep soundly thinking about my future, a future that I was afraid to face.
What could I contribute to my world? I've never felt capable of doing something right, it always ended up causing a mess. My attempts to help almost always go wrong. I felt different and unnecessary. I tried to imagine a way of life, a way of life with value.
"I wish..." I said in my mind, "I wish to see that other world."
I kept reflecting: I didn't want my life to be the same as everyone else, I really wanted to see the world, have adventures, and be a hero.
"Typical of a child," Every person I met always told me that I should grow up, but every time I tried, it ended in mistakes and disasters.
The best thing I could do in those moments was to stop thinking, but rather to go to sleep and dream that one day I could feel free, being myself, with those who really considered me their friends, with someone who wanted a better world. My dream turned to seeing myself flying: without worries, without fear, without bad people. In other words, I was free against the wind.
However, my adventure did not last long, because little by little, something felt different. And, at one point, I felt like something was out of place. Then I opened my eyes, and the next thing I realized was that I was on some kind of floating island in a void reminiscent of outer space, but dark blue, almost purple, with several pieces of rock like asteroids. The most surprising thing was that there were also big planets, like in space or something. I got a little closer to the edge to get a better look at that scene.
I tried to breathe. It was like actually being in space, except that there was air. What place was that? When I looked back, I realized that in the center of my island there was a yellow beam of light that shone like a portal.
"This feels a bit familiar..." I thought, "What will happen if I go back there? Will I wake up from this strange dream? "
I didn't have much time to continue thinking, as a huge meteor hit the island. Even though I held on tight, the impact split a piece of the island, with me on top of it. I was really trapped, afraid of looking into the huge void that awaited me below, I was always afraid of heights, and falling into the void would be much worse, because it meant not knowing where to go.
How long did that last? I couldn't say. Imagine yourself floating in space, on an asteroid, aimlessly sinking into the dark depths. Also, the funny thing was that the rock seemed to have no gravity, as it floated, but I did, otherwise it would also be floating. I blinked several times, but could not wake up from this supposed dream.
My fear was growing. How would I get out of there? Fortunately, my salvation came when I realized that, thanks to the movement, I was passing near another island much like the one I had just left.
Like I said, it was almost the same. The only difference was that that island had another beam of light that glowed with a light purple hue. Before I thought twice, I jumped there to avoid being adrift in space. I fell very easily (I suppose due to the strange environment, almost as if the low gravity affected me too), and I quickly made my way towards the beam of light before another bad thing happened.
"But this is different. What if it is not the way out?" I thought, "But it sure is better than staying in a space void."
I decided to go through the portal. Everything went dark: everything around me was in shadow and a strange air was breathed, as if I were at a great height. He still couldn't see anything until a glow lit up the darkness.
It was one of those gemstones that I saw in the game: a large, reflective spiritual gem, like a mirror. As I got closer, I was shocked by what I saw: my reflection was not exactly mine. It moved like me, but the image was that of a orange dragon with red spots and a flame tail. An elemental dragon of fire.
Moved by curiosity and shock, I brought my hand closer to the gem as my dragon reflection brought its paw closer. Just when I was about to touch her, a voice whispered:
"This reflection is what you are inside..."
By the time I finished hearing those words, the gem sucked me in like a portal, and I could hear voices speaking in a strange language. Then a golden glow emerged, filling the void with lights similar to those of an aurora borealis. In it, you could see figures and silhouettes of huge animals, but being so bright, it was difficult for me to discern who or what they were.
Suddenly, those figures surrounded me and passed in front of and behind me, as if stalking me at great speed. Then I could feel a tug on my back.
The lights surrounded me, covering my entire body in brilliance. Instantly, I felt as if my whole being was on fire: it was quite unbearable heat, something that didn't really seem like a dream. I felt like I was going to pass out...
Finally, I felt like they let me go out of nowhere. However, I did not fall abruptly like a dead weight, but fell feeling the breeze of the air, slowly descending towards something solid, probably a lawn, for I could smell the somewhat wet grass, the scent of rain in the air, and feel something like dirt on my face.
Before wondering why I could perceive all those sensations, exhaustion overtook me and I fell asleep again.
