The adults were already awake to get everything ready for their departure. The hustle and bustle in the house woke Mitch up. She walked out of her room in shorts and a tank top, her parents and aunt running around in front of her.
Her lids drooped heavily over her eyes when she blinked, preventing the bright sunlight from blinding her. "Can't we at least have breakfast first before we get stressed? I don't work without coffee." the blonde yawned tiredly as she rubbed her eyes. Her grandfather was already one step ahead of her and said, standing at the stove, "Already on it."
"Sweetheart, could you please wake Charlie, we want to leave soon." Mitch nodded to her mother, walked the three steps from the door of her room to Charlies, only to see her cousin snuggled close together with her best friend when she entered.
It wasn't the first time that she saw this. But she thought it was cute. Cute how the two cared for each other.
The moment was ended by Mitch clapping her hands loudly, "Get up. Breakfast! Our parents want to leave!".
Both JJ and Charlie flinch, startled. Charlie threw her pillow at her cousin and then left JJ alone in her bed. Mitch disappeared into her room to change into a pair of gray fabric shorts and an orange crop top with white sneakers.
JJ had his back to the brunette as she changed, for some privacy. After she had put on the denim shorts, the gray shirt and the green flannel, she walked to the bed with her chucks in hand and shook the blonde lightly.
Groaning, he sat up, looked around sleepily, and then put on the clothes he'd woren last night.
When the two stepped out of the room, JJ walked close behind Charlie, even if he had been there many times and none of the adults had anything against him, it was always an uncomfortable situation for him.
Fiddling with his fingers, he observes the family attentively. "Morning, JJ." Oliver scurried past the boy as he walked towards the table with Charlie.
He greeted the family and sat between Ape and Charlie. "I keep asking, but JJ you have coffee too?" Gigi asked, whereupon he nodded shyly.
It was always funny to see how shy he was in front of Mitchs and Charlies family compared to his behavior in front of the Pogues.
"So, because of the coming storm we have to leave today, but we're trying to get it all done as quickly as possible. " Kathy explained when everyone was quiet.
JJ looked up with a frown "You're leaving?" he muffled through the food which he was trying to swallow.
A slight pout formed on his face, whereupon Charlie playfully nudged him with her elbow, "Are you going to miss us?" He just rolled his eyes but replied, "Of course."
He finally swallowed the rest of his Food "What should I do then? Hanging out at John B's all day without you guys and - " before he said the wrong thing, he stopped abruptly.
The adults knew that JJ and Charlie liked to smoke a joint or two, but not officially. Everyone was aware of it, but nobody spoke about it.
"Don't worry JJ, it's just Gina, Kat and me. Ape and the girls stay here.", Oliver finally explained to the boy. The oldest patted JJ on the shoulder "You can stay here, with us, if you like."
A little smile crept over JJ's lips. He nodded "Thank you.".
It was a nice feeling to be wanted for the boy. That he was not a 'waste of space' and the people around him cared for him.
Of course his friends did that all the time, but it was always something else from an adult like Ape or Kat.
After the family said their goodbyes, JJ and the girls planned what they would do. The three stood on the porch.
