You were dreading going to another one of Tony Starks parties. It was the fifth one in the last three months. And to be honest, you were kind of tired of them.
The same alcohol, the same music and the same people.
Well, only this time you had a date. But not just any ordinary date.
You were going with the Winter Soldier. Bucky Barnes himself.
You two had previously hit it off at one of Tony's summer parties a few months ago, promising to talk again at a later date. But with all the trouble the Avengers had to deal with, and with all the work you had at the museum, you two had no time.
Sure, you had each others numbers, but you were more of a face to face kind of person. And besides, you wouldn't have texted him first anyways.
Sighing to yourself as you stared at the party invitation, you dared a glance at your closet. Yes, you had a dress already picked out, but you were really debating on going or not. Would Bucky even show up?
The invitation, decked out with strips of green and red, said the party required a plus one. Which was very odd considering it was Tony Stark. But you didn't give it much thought as you grabbed your phone. Were you really about to do this?
🎄🎄🎄🎄
Two hours. You had been pacing back and forth, your phone clutched in your hand tightly. You hadn't worked up the nerve to even type in Buckys number yet. Why did you have to be such a damn coward? It was one call and one question. The worst that could happen was he could say no. Right?
Wrong. The worst thing that could happen is learning you had the wrong number. Of course someone like Bucky Barnes wouldn't dare give you his number.
After apologizing to the worried woman on the other end of the phone, you hung up and threw your device on the bed. You were pissed. Why had he given you a fake number? Was he just trying to get rid of you?
No. That couldn't be it. Steve had said he had taken an interest in you. And you trusted Steve. Well, half way anyways.
As you stared at your closet again, you decided to get dressed.
'Fuck it.' You thought while you pulled on the red dress you had waiting for you. You were going to walk into this party, plus one or not. Tony wouldn't care either way.
You quickly did your makeup and hair, pulling on a pair of jeweled heels before leaving the small apartment, heading straight for the tower.
🎄🎄🎄🎄
The night air was warm as it brushed against your exposed shoulders. You were currently standing outside of Stark Towers, staring up at the large building.
People passed by in a busy blur, paying no mind to your revealing dress. You simply didn't have the time to care what people thought. You were on a mission.
As you punched in the floor number inside the elevator, you thought about what you were going to say to Bucky when you saw him.
Of course, if you could speak anything worth understanding. When you were in his presence, you simply were lost for words. But this time would be different you had promised yourself. This time you would tell him how much of a jerk he was for leaving you with a fake number and with no contact at all.
You didn't care when or if they threw you out of the tower for causing a scene either. All you wanted was answers. And you wanted them now.
And then your moment arrived.
Once those elevator doors opened, revealing a party decked out in Christmas decorations with loud music, you angrily walked out making sure to keep your head high as you scanned the crowd.
Tony was with pepper by the bar and you saw Wanda dancing with Vision. And then you saw him.
No, not bucky. Steve.
Marching over to him, you pulled him away from his conversation with a blonde haired woman.
"Hey, what are you doing y/n?" He asked you in confusion.
You had let go of him once you were out of sight from others. "Wheres Bucky? I need to talk to him." You said, hands on your hips.
Steve sighed. "He said he was going to be late tonight. I don't know why. Wait, why do you care?" He asked.
You didn't have time for this, so you immediately went to look for the lost soldier. Steve was lying. He was here. Why would steve cover for him?
Searching the room through all the dancing bodies, something glinted in the corner of your eye. Something shiny.
You turned your head and walked over to the empty balcony, shutting the door behind you. "So, this is where you're hiding." You said, arms folded.
A light chuckle from the sharply dressed man in front of you. "I knew you'd come eventually." He said as he turned to face you, taking a few steps closer.
"I only came for answers. Now, why did you give me the fake number?"
Bucky Smiled slightly, even closer than before. "Because I knew if I gave you a reason to come back to the tower, besides parties because I know you hate them, I could do this." He said before raising up his metal arm, revealing a clump of mistletoe above the two of you.
You laughed. "Sneaky. And a bit mean, don't you think?"
Bucky shrugged and smiled. "I figured I could make up for it with this."
Before you had time to react, he leaned in and kissed you gently, forgetting the mistletoe as he wrapped his arms around your waist.
And make up for it he did.
