Chapter 6: Let's Relive the Past
"Who the hell is she?!!" Riley exclaimed.
He sounded star struck!!
"Umm...she's this girl I met at the party! How many times do I've to tell you?!" I retorted with impatience. We were in the car heading home when I showed him Carol's picture. I wanted to know how she looked, not that it mattered really but I still wanted to know!!
"Oh I know that, you buffoon! I'm asking for her details!! Who is she??" He asked. I suddenly turned possessive. "She's Caroline Stewart who's from St. Mark's. She lives in Times Square and she's my friend." I warned. "Okay, dude!! Don't get your panties in a twist!! I was just asking!! Anyway, let me tell you...she's one hell of a stunner!! Gosh! Look at her!! She's a stunning diva!! She has beautiful deep blue eyes and a flawless face with brown wavy hair tumbling all the way down her shoulders. She has a cute dimple too! She's a marvel!!" He praised.
I was shocked! The girl I seemed to really like was one heck of a beauty?!! Woah!! I had to be a really lucky guy to have fallen for a girl who just didn't have brawns and sentiments but beauty as well! I wish I could've seen her photo the way he could because the way I would've described her would've been right from the bottom of my heart with awe and praise in every sentence. Cheesy? I know.
"How did you guys meet, though? Was she one of your fan girls?" He joked.
"Nah, I met her near the lake when I wanted some fresh air and a better atmosphere." I trailed dreamily, recalling the incident that happened almost 10 minutes back. I couldn't help but smile goofily at it. "You two were the only ones there, right?" He asked, curiously with his voice hinting mischief. "Yeah..." I replied.
"Wow, seems like it was the magnetic attraction between you two that made you guys such fast friends!" He exclaimed gleefully.
"Fast friends?" I asked, confusedly. "Yeah...I mean...did you even hear yourself?? You're such a goner, bro!! It seems like she's the only thing that's playing on your mind! I bet you're thinking she's the reason why you still exist!! And for sure, I know that she's more than "she's my friend" shit that you said. Ha ha ha ha!! Kevin has become a sooooftie!! Stupid Kev's in luuuuve!!" He teased in a sing-song voice that made me chuckle at his childishness.
"Okay...here we're, your majesty!" He whistled while opening the door for me with a courteous bow. "Fuck off!" I said and the two of us burst out laughing. "Just exactly, how many pegs did you've?" I asked. "Umm...one, two, three..." He ranted while counting stupidly on his fingers. "Uhh...umm...8. Yeah...8." He said with finality. "Okay! Whatever, drunkie!" "Oh, shut up! But hey, I might be drunk but that will not make me forget that my best friend's madly in love!!" He yelled while making his way back to the car. "Keep saying that!! We know who's more in love, doofus!!" I yelled back. "Oh yeah!! We'd know!! Deny! Deny! Deny!" Saying so, his laughter sounded farther and farther away as I walked towards the main door while the engine revved up and sped away.
"Dring...Dring..." I waited while somebody opened the door. "Good evening, Kev! Congratulations!! Had an awesome after party?" Jon asked while patting my back. "Oh yeah...it was great!! Thanks! Where's everybody??" I asked after stepping inside. "Your mom and dad have gone to pick up some guests. They'll be staying here for a week."
"Not again!!" I whined while he just chuckled at my disdain.
"Seriously?! Guests?? Are they those annoying relatives??" I asked in agitation.
"Nope. I don't know who they're but your relatives aren't coming this time." I sighed in relief.
"Where's my sister?" I asked. "She's in her room getting ready for the guests."
I bade him a small salute and slowly made my way up the stairs. The thing was, when my parents weren't there, I felt like I could be myself. That is, absolutely comfortable and the blindness did not affect me at all!! I used to act like it didn't. Better overcome it, right? My mom didn't even know that I played basketball!! It was only my dad, Eva and Jon who knew.
"Can I come in, princess?" I asked, courteously. The door suddenly flung open and I heard my sister's excited voice. "Kevi!! Where were you for so long?? I was so alone!!" She whined. I bent down and hugged her tight. "I was playing basketball. And guess what?? Our team won!! How great is that?!" I asked while caressing her cheeks. She giggled. "I'm so proud of you, Kevi!! I knew you could do it!!" She exclaimed.
"You knew I had my match today?" I asked in wonder.
"Of course I knew!" She answered while playing with my already messed up hair. "Yep. You always know everything about me." I cracked a laugh.
"So what did you do while I was away?" I asked. "I went to school. Then I went to Sean's house because I was feeling bored but we had fun!! It was really cooool!! Then I came home and mommy told me to get ready because Abi was going to come!! Abi and her mommy and daddy!!" She exclaimed while giggling and jumping up and down. I furrowed my eyebrows. This was not a good sign.
To change the topic, I teased, "You enjoyed at Sean's, huh?? Who's this guy, Eva?? Does big brother Kevi have to be concerned??" She punched me playfully. "You don't ask me too many questions!! Aren't you happy that Abi's going to come??" It was her turn to tease me now.
"Shut up, Eva!" I snapped, annoyed. The door bell suddenly rang. "Oh oh! Kevi, comb your hair a little and just get yourself a little presentable. You don't want to make a bad impression, right?" Saying so, she tried combing my hair with her fingers then rushed downstairs to open the door. Since when did my sister start talking like mom?! I huffed and stood nervously upstairs.
"Hey, Eva, sweetie!! How are you, darling? Oh, look at you!! She's my Cinderella!!" I heard Mrs. Watson exclaim ecstatically. "Hello, Eva!! You've indeed grown up into a beauty!! She has taken after your looks, Emma!" Mr. Watson commented. "No! She's more beautiful!! She has got Richard's eyes..." Mom corrected. All of them started laughing. The house seemed so lively now...until... "Hey, Ev!! What a surprise!! You look so pretty, sweetheart!!"
"Thank you, Abigail!" Eva replied, timidly.
Shit!! Why was the universe against me?! Why did Abigail and her family come to visit us?! Hell!! Why was Abigail here in the first place??
"Where's Kevin?" Iheard her ask. I groaned internally. "He's upstairs...waiting for you!!" Shewhispered while the others continued talking. My sister was so dead!! And me, Ididn't even have the slightest idea on what was going to happen! I just didn'twant to meet Abigail Watson even if we were the last two people on this planet.
