Chapter 18: Serenade
****Caroline's POV****
"Woah!" The word escaped from my mouth as I gaped at the giant Ferris wheel. Hayden held my hand as he grinned broadly at my reaction. I didn't know he would bring me here! Hell! I didn't even have the slightest idea! "Behold the London Eye!" He whooped as he tugged me forward. I was dazed by the huge structure! It was bigger than I had ever imagined it to be!
London Eye is situated at the South Bank of River Thames and the river glistened beautifully as the sun slowly began to set in the horizon. "C'mon! We need to get in there quickly!" Hayden urged as he dragged me along with him. I nodded numbly. Let's face it. I was scared of heights. I mean, I could handle normal heights but a height we could possibly reach in this Ferris made me shiver. The crowd didn't notice us. Us meaning Hayden. Probably it was because he was wearing a cap and sunglasses. Or probably it was because everyone was too excited or anxious to even notice!
I watched Hayden join the line that was diminishing by the second while getting inside the capsules. God! This structure was so well-defined! "After you!" Hayden bowed courteously, and smiling, I grasped his hand as I got into the capsule with two other passengers joining us. I took my seat with Hayden in tow, sitting towards my left. After everybody was settled, the volunteers came in to check on us and follow our safety measures. The two other passengers sat opposite us. They were old but looked fun. The wife was teasing her husband as he was getting his panties in a twist due to what was going to come.
"They say that this thing goes real fast..." Hayden trailed, an evil smirk playing on his lips.
I raised my eyebrows in question with my heart beating furiously. "And your point is?"
"You'll be clinging onto me for dear life..." He chuckled. I snorted as he continued chuckling to himself. I smiled as I kept looking outside. It was really sweet of him to bring me here. He surely knew how to plan a date well. I had to give him that credit!
Just then the capsule doors shut. It was a complete deja-vu that my fingers found solace as they entwined with Hayden's. "Told ya!" He mocked and I shot him a glare.
The Ferris wheel then started moving; slowly at first then with its speed increasing by every fraction. Soon, the wheel kept circling with the view growing hazy and swift as the rotation continued. All of my previous tension soon sublimed and I kept enjoying the ride. Hayden held my hand tighter and we smiled at the moment. That was when the ride was slowly coming to a halt. Like a snail, the ride kept circling and it stopped when our capsule reached the top.
"This is...beautiful..." I exclaimed as I stood up to reach the glass window.
"It truly is..." Hayden replied while staring intensely at me.
I blushed and tried avoiding his gaze. The view from here...oh, how to describe it...it was like watching heaven from a distance! I could see Westminster, Big Ben and the whole of the city of London. Right ahead of us, the sun slowly began setting while spreading its auburn rays that cascaded on the crystal water of the river. Beauty just got redefined! I smiled and looked at Hayden. He was grasping the view just like how I was doing sometime back...
"Thank you!" I whispered as I held his hand. "You like it?" He asked, his eyes searching mine for an answer.
"Of course I like it! Like would probably be an understatement! I freaking love it!" I exclaimed.
He beamed at my answer and should I add in 'huffed in relief'? The pain this guy was taking to serenade me was too painful! How was I to make him understand?
The time period where the ride would come to a standstill was only for 15 minutes. We got back to our seats hand in hand and caught the old couple snuggled in each others arms as they whispered sweet nothings to each other! How cute! Would Kevin and I ever end up like that? 'You're on a date, Caroline! Don't ruin the moment!' My mind shouted and I felt like hitting myself. How could I think of Kevin when I was on a date with Hayden?! Oh Lord, why was this happening?! Why? Why??
The wheel then reached the bottom, that is, the entrance from where we entered and the capsule doors opened. I walked out and the strong wind blew my hair. The sky was a tinge of orange now and the lights from the skyscrapers and buildings in the distance were lighting up. London was magnificent in every way possible! It was a city of life and utter beauty!
"Umm...Caroline?" Hayden asked and I turned around to face him. He had two candyflosses with him. I squealed in delight and he laughed at my reaction. I rushed towards him to grab one.
"Uh-ah!" He teased as he raised the candyfloss beyond my reach. Uggh! "Give it to me, Albert!" I pleaded as I kept jumping to catch my 'love'! Firstly, I wasn't short. I was freaking 5'6, but yeah, Hayden was 5'11...so...you could imagine my struggle...
"Want it? Then try to get it!" Hay sneered as I jumped in frustration only to end up catching thin air. On the spur of the moment, I kissed him. It was a quick chaste kiss but it did send tingles down my spine. Hayden stood rooted to the ground and I grabbed the opportunity to claim my so-called 'love'!
I began devouring the candyfloss while he glared at me. I giggled at him and a smile slowly made its way onto his face. "I'm so getting you for this..." He warned, his eyes twinkling mischievously. I stuck out my tongue at him and began running away from him while he began catching me. Being the faster one from the two of us, he caught me and pulled me to a nearby stand. Out of breath and with smiles on our faces, we began gorging on pure divinity.
"So shall we announce this as our first date?" I asked after a moment of silence. He was taken aback by my bluntness. I mean I could understand his reaction. And again...why was I leading him on?!
He composed himself real quick and grinned like a lunatic. "Yeah! Sure! Thought you'd never say something like that!" He stated and removed his phone. I was glad things were getting back to normal between us. The awkwardness was dying. If he was making a move to mellow things down, then why couldn't I? It was happening slowly and it would surely take time but...it was happening. That was all I wanted! I hoped that we could still remain friends even after this one month because truly, I always felt like myself when I would spend time with him. After all, he was my friend before he became my boyfriend. He was the perfect definition of being goofy and crazy altogether!
While clicking selfies, I removed his glasses and put them on. The photos were freakishly cute and my heart ached as it recollected the past. How long would it take me to completely move on?
That was when shit happened.
"Isn't that Hayden Albert over there?!!" A girl gushed and all I could hear in that fraction of probably even a nanosecond was the deafening cheers of "Hayden! Hayden! Hayden!" booming the entire area. I glanced at him and saw him looking at me nervously. His fans rushed towards us and some of the girls were crying at the sight of him. Wow! Could someone please explain that to me?! Security guards soon filled the area by creating a barrier. You never know what fans could do when they were hypnotised...
There weren't millions of fans crooning at the sight of him currently but I could say that mostly all the people in this locality were here! The fans grew into a frenzy what with them continuously clicking photos of us. Okay...so I had to brace myself at what would be trending on the internet tomorrow...How do you think I was feeling when all of this was going on? I had surprised myself too by my reaction. Instead of running away from the 'exaggerated' attention, I was waving and smiling at the audience!
"Caroline?" Hayden asked, pure shock in his voice.
"Hmm?" I replied while continuing to wave and smile.
"You're seriously okay with this?!" He continued. I looked at him and grinned.
"It's just for a month. I can handle it." Saying so, I continued waving and smiling while not knowing a teary eyed Hayden with the most heartbreakingly pained face was watching me.
