Rainer’s POV
A week later I looked at myself in the mirror. "Hmm..." The fringed white blouse and the jeans didn't look bad on me, but they made me like I was about to go the church for mass insted of a theme park. Yeah, Ashton had convinced me to go out with him and he was going to take me to the ‘Jolly Roger’ a pirate themed theme park near the outskirts of the town. It was my favorite place since I was a kid; my father used to our family there to watch fireworks every New Year’s eve. And now, I bet that boy took me there only because he knew that I was a huge fan of Pirates of The Caribbean.
I decided to swap the jeans with a jeans skirt and put on a gray vest. At least I looked better; I didn’t bother to dress up well just for a simple date with a Don Juan. Probably unlike the other girls he had dated before, I didn’t put on any make ups nor did my hair. I thought I was half conscious when I agreed to go out with him. And that was why I didn’t say a thing to Desmond; he would kill him for sure.
There was a knock on my door. “Rainer, honey?”
“What is it mom?”
“May I come in?”
I was being hesitated first, I bet she was going to put something on me, or maybe to check out my outfit I was going to wear which she would absolutely hate. I admitted that I had a terrible fashion sense, but it didn’t bother me much. Unlike myself, my mother and sister had some very good fashion senses; I had always become their doll since baby. When I was a little girl they let my hair grew very long so they could play or I should say, experimented with it. And that was the reason why I loved short hair.
“Alright. Come in.”
I could see her eyes eyeing me very thoroughly from head to toe, and I was proudly to say that I had failed to impress her. Of course, I had no intention of doing that. “Wait here.” She went through my closet and search through some stuff. “Didn’t I buy you a dress?”
“Mom, how many times I’ve told you. I’m not a dress person!”
“But you’re a girl. Any girl in the world would look lovely in a dress!”
“Let’s face it. I’m not included in any kind of girl in the world, okay? Besides, I have no idea what dress you’re talking about.”
She grabbed something out of a box and showed me what she meant. God! Anything but it! “See? This is the dress I bought for you, remember?” It was country dress with yellow plaid patterns. If I put it on, the only thing that missing was a couple of braided hair. Perfect, people would think I just came from a new set of Little House on the Prairie! “You should put it on, honey. You would look lovely on your first date!”
I scoffed. “Yeah, only if I was Laura Ingalls!”
“Oh come on, this isn’t bad! I even wore this kind of dress on my first date you’re your father!”
“Yeah, centuries ago,” I mumbled. I preferred Regine dress me up, at least she had a more ‘current’ taste, too bad she went out with her old friends.
“Oh, you. Fine!” she sighed. “I’m just trying to help here; I just really wanted to make your first date to be an unforgettable moment so you can remember it until the rest of your life.”
“Please, no.” I took my bag and walked to the living room.
“What? Why?” She followed me still holding the dress. “I’m sure Ashton will impress you and you also have to impress him. Oh! I bet he’ll steal your first kiss with him.”
