Yang Yang furtively pulled his cap down, almost touching his eyebrows. His eyes were concealed behind a pair of giant sunglasses. Together with his face mask, only a sliver of his high nose bridge can be seen. He deliberately hunched to make himself less noticeable, and had worn an inexpensive jacket to blend in with the less trendy, provincial crowd.

He hid behind a pillar and checked the ride hailing app for the license plate of his car.

He knew he looked incredibly dodgy. He had flown into this small city for a clandestine appointment, and as with all clandestine appointments, nobody was to know about it.

Especially Zhang Zhehan.

He had lied to his lover that he would busy all day at a commercial shoot, but in reality he had taken morning flight out alone.

His ride arrived. Yang Yang stepped out from behind the pillar and got in.

The address was an hour's drive away, and he closed his eyes and tried to nap. There was nothing to see out here in the agricultural and industrial zone anyway.

Eventually the landscape changed. Yang Yang shifted in his seat and peered out at the strange, yet not unfamiliar sights. Indeed every city in China looked the same.

Changsha, Suzhou, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Guangzhou. The major provincial capitals all looked similar with their skyscrapers of mirrored glass, lined up along a river or lake, looking like a modern day variant of the Great Wall.

But instead of keeping out the barbaric hordes with bows and arrows, these buildings, the financial centers of the province, defend the sanctity of motherland with unimaginable amounts of cash.

This little city he just arrived in was barely a city with over 1 million inhabitants. It was mostly devoid of skyscrapers, with one or two taller buildings arrogantly towering over the rest of the city.

The car pulled into a quiet suburb littered with motorcycles and bicycles.

"Why have you come to this place?" The driver noticed that he was awake and tried to make conversation.

"Making a delivery." Yang Yang shifted a paper box on to his lap. He did not want to make unnecessary conversation with people he did not know well, for fear of being recognised and inviting trouble.

The driver noticed his reticent tone and continued on in silence. They were about to reach his destination anyway.

A few minutes later Yang Yang alighted. He hoisted his bag on to his shoulder and balanced the box in his arms as he checked the map on his phone.

Then he started walking towards his destination.

He spotted a gate which matched the photos he was sent by his contact. Knowing that he found the place, he took a deep breath to calm his excitement and pressed the doorbell.

At once there was a frantic barking of a dog, followed by the sound of footsteps and a man hushing his pet.

"Who is it?"

"Courier." Yang Yang truthfully replied. He was delivering himself.

"I did not order anything. Please go away."

Shit, he did not foresee this.

He heard the man walk away and back into the house. Shaking his head with the unexpected twist, Yang Yang took out his phone and called a number.

"I sent you something but the delivery seems to have failed. Can you open the door?"

There was a few moments of silence before the door opened and a man wearing a face mask and glasses cautiously peered out.
