JEANNE

Ohmygod! What the hell did I do last night?????????

And the whole thing is a blur! And I don’t remember anything I said or anything he said, and he must have taken me home because he knew I was so high.
I emit a rather frightening moan.
But I’m scrambling out of bed anyway. I grab my purse, dump it upside down, and shake it frantically. Pens and lipsticks and quarters shower out and roll away. Movie tickets, books store receipts , cards. My wallet. Nothing. I shake it harder.
There! My phone.
I texted Matthew to asked what happened.
Oh crap!
I forgot. I didn’t for his number.
My head hurts and the fried bacon filled my room. Peter is cooking breakfast this morning, for sure. I wonder how he was after last night.
I walked barefoot to the edge of the floor and stood listening, working my toes into the plush.
My gut twisted, and I moved quicker. I needed a drink.

A long exhale “ How is your head Jeanne?”
“ Its better now” I replied.
“ We should go out some other time. I mean, we should go out every night”
“ Oh Shudaap! Last night was a total annihilation”
“ A what?” Peter says.
“ Peter... My head is heavy and I can’t remember anything about last night. How did get here?” I asked.
Peter sat with me bringing his orange juice. “ Matthew brought us home”
Matthew.
“ He did?”
Peter nods.
“ Did it rain last night?”
“ Yep and I got both of our clothes dried up”. Peter is chewing his food.
“ Is Matthew okay?”
He swallowed. “ Yeah. He is tough, you know”
Tough and Hot
“ Did you check on him?” I say
“ I sent him a message”
My brother has Matthew’s number. Of course he has.
I have a plan.

Sitting on the couch, ten A.M, I made it to page 228 of A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray, when Peter got out from his room wrap by the towel. I knew, there is no shower in his room.
“ I’m going to take a long bath Jeanne”
“ Sure. Go ahead.”
Right after he closed the door of my room, I hopped out and drop my phone and book to the couch.
I’m going to get Matthew’s number from my brother’s phone.
I overheard Peter singing Lucy in the sky with Diamonds.

Holding my phone to the left and to the right is Peter’s phone. I searched in the contact lists for Matthew’s number. Peter is still in the shower.
I found his number. Just as I was about to type Matthew’s number, my phone vibrates.
Then, I drop my phone to the floor.
I looked at it.
A text message from an anonymous number.
Shocks.

            Jeanne,
How is your head? I hope you took an Avil. You were so drunk last night and so was your brother. I decided to take both of you home safely. Don’t worry, you didn’t do anything stupid last night. –Matthew

I received Matthew’s text.
He doesn’t know how glad I am...really glad.
His number.
Thats what they say, “ Enjoy the little things”
