Chapter Nine part two- A horror story

" I was nineteen, my friend Jessica and I were walking home from a party. Our other friend went with some guy so we lost our ride, Jessica was talking animatedly-non stop. probably because she was slightly drunk. But I felt uneasy for some reason".

It was slowly starting to dawn on me that Milly's slight reluctance earlier; to telling me her story, was probably because it wasn't a very happy one. evidently it wasn't considering that she's now a vampire.

" I don't know why but I had a feeling we were being followed, we didn't see anyone or hear anything. But, I could feel it. I could.....sense their presence. I had grabbed Jessica's hand and told her to hush and listen for a minute, we listened but couldn't hear anything. Other than the odd car passing every now and then, there was no one else on the street. That we saw."

Milly paused and without looking up said." I'll warn you Chloe, what happens next is quite the horror story". I watched her in the mirror but she wouldn't meet my eyes.

" It wasn't until we started walking again". She continued. " That we heard something. It sounded like wind rustling the trees, but......there wasn't any wind and there wasn't any trees on the side walk." Milly was talking in an unhurried, flat toneless voice. It unsettled me.

"Jessica was quiet now and we continued walking holding hands, I could feel them shaking but I wasn't sure if it was hers or mines. Or both. And then it stopped, we couldn't hear it anymore. It was an ominous silence, the stillness before the storm. I felt Jessica's fingers grip mine more firmly and with an unspoken agreement we quickened our pace. The footsteps we heard next, were deliberately shuffling, as if whom ever they belonged to wanted us to know they were there. And then a voice spoke out from behind us."

I waited for Milly to finish, for some hopeless reason, praying that things worked out okay. That this had a happy ending.

"I'll take the red head, you take the blond. There were two of them. Jessica and I started running, and I kept thinking, If we could get to the next street there would be more lights and there was bound to be more people around because there were clubs and bars down there. We were nearly to the top of the street when I felt Jessica's hand leave mine".

I could hear the twinge of distress seeping into Milly's tone, I would of stopped her, told her that it was okay. She didn't have to say anymore. But she continued, Her voice growing ever more tortured.

"I turned around but.......she wasn't there. No one was there. Sometimes one's mind works very slowly at times. I stood there dumbly. Stunned. I called out her name, a little shakily but there was no answer.

I was contemplating whether I should run ahead and see if there was anyone around that could help me look for her. How does somebody just disappear, without a sound. In seconds.?

From somewhere near by came scuffling noises, and Jessica screamed, I ran in the direction of her cry, calling out her name. And collided into a male stomach.".

I sat there holding my breath, unsure whether I wanted to hear any more. But I asked for it.

" His stomach was soft, But his arms where like steel as he pinned mines together tightly. I felt my feet leave the ground and a sudden breeze whipping lightly through my hair. He was carrying me, but I couldn't see anything. My face was crushed to his chest. And just as suddenly, he stopped. And set me down still holding me. I was shaking violently, too stunned to even scream. I heard Jessica sobbing, I- I tried to see where she was but wherever he took me it was too dark.....I think it was an alleyway. I called out for her and she called my name, and then he started laughing. The man that was holding me. Dark and menacing."
