The days went by and all I could think about was Yang. She still had those feelings we shared at Beacon, and I just had to talk to her about it. She wasn't avoiding me anymore but she wasn't interacting with me either. She still wouldn't let me see in her head, but I didn't even try to anymore. I knew what she was feeling, I just had to talk to her though. Even Antonio had tried to get her to talk to me but no luck was to be had there.
"I'm telling you hermano, you just need to go talk to her yourself," said Antonio.
"I dunno man, she probably won't even listen," I said.
"You never know, it is Christmas Eve so maybe she'll give you her ear?" Proposed the man.
I thought it over a few times, but thought that I shouldn't. At least until Yang walked through the living room and out the door.
"Well, I guess goes nothing," I breathed.
I stood up and took a swig of my scotch before following Yang out the door. She'd grabbed her dads axe and started walking towards the forest as I got out.
"Yang!" I yelled out to her.
"What Isaac?" Said Yang, a little annoyed.
"I think we should talk," I said.
She turned around and gave me a look that I didn't need to be an empath to know she thought I was stupid.
"Really? Tell the girl holding an axe 'we should talk' after what you did?" She told me.
"I... I deserve that," I said.
"So what is it," she said, still annoyed.
I... I lost track of thought. Seeing Yang standing their was just like after our night together. She took away my breath and I'd lose my words.
"Well?"
"I... I need to know if you fell like I did," I finally said.
Yang scoffed a little before letting the axe fall to her side.
"So that's what this is about. Look I know we shared a night together, but then Beacon happened and... and y... and you just rode off into the sunset when it was all done! We haven't even spoke since you just up and left? I...," she trailed off.
I had no idea what's going on now. I thought about trying to use my semblance again, but...
"Look, I just... you know the other day I..." I started.
"You what? You saw in my mind and think you know exactly what everyone feels?!" She exclaimed.
Does she know...?
"Before you even ask, I know you were behind that rock the other day. The way you just said that and the look on your face told me all I needed to know that maybe I'm not just paranoid! At least I know you'd go behind my back just for your own conscious!" Snapped Yang.
I can't believe this...
"I... I... I need to get to work," she said, turning back to walk into the forest.
She didn't even answer me. She disappeared into the trees, and I stood there as Antonio walked up to me.
"So how did it go?" He asked.
"...I'm gonna... go for a ride. No promises but I'll try n' be back 'fore sundown," I said.
"We'll saddle up then amigo," said Antonio.
"Alone, hermano," I clarified.
Lightning rode up to me and I mounted him fast, before we trotted off from the house. I rode for hours, just thinking about what to do next.
"God, you really fucked this up now didn't ya?" I told myself.
Yang never even answered me, she didn't even answer. Hell, for all I know I just ruined that spark forever. Should I just stay out here until it's time to leave for Vale? Maybe I should just have another drink to forget all of this. Maybe I should...
"AHHHHHHHHH!" I screamed out as I drew and Oath Breaker.
I quickly emptied all six chambers in my pistol, the dust rounds shattering a tree to splinters and felling it violently...
Where did that come from? I'd never gone off with a gun like that, had I? I quickly holstered the revolver, sitting down on a rock. What the hell got into me?
"Maybe I just need another drink to calm me down," I mumbled.
I saddled up again, and started the long walk back to the house. I had no idea what would be waiting for me back there. Hell for all I knew Yang would be out there with her gauntlet ready to shoot me, and I'd probably deserve it. I looked up to the night sky and saw something that caught my eye. An owl, sitting on a branch watching me ride along the trail. Canine always says that owls are guides sent by our ancestors to keep us on the right path. I stopped and looked up at my feathered friend, who cocked his head as I stared up through my clouded breath.
"Alright bud, show me where to go," I mumbled.
Did I think this would work? I don't know. Was I willing to try it? It's better than sitting here in the cold snow. The owl chirped a few times and then took flight heading down the trail, back to house. I took another swig of scotch, and then closed up my flask.
"Hya Lightnin'!" I snapped the reigns. "Don't lose that bird boy!"
Lightning went into a gallop as the bird disappeared through the dark. My eyesight may not be as sharp as Damian's, but I still had better eyesight than humans. The owl would cross my vision around curves but disappear swiftly. The bird took a turn on another path, up and away from Yangs house, but I still followed it. I followed it up the mountain side path, stopping swiftly when I saw a man sitting in the snow, the owl landing on his broad shoulders. I dismounted Lightning as the man stood up. He was wearing the same type of clothing Damian wore, and when he turned around he even looked like him, but a lot older.
"What the hell?" I mumbled.
"Nati vis nehnda predava, unilay ona tseka ev looa," said the Faunus.
"What?" I asked.
The man smiled a little as a strong breeze blew snow between me and him, disappearing as the wind ended. What the hell did he say to me? I stepped out to look over the edge and saw Yang's house at the bottom of a draw, covered in slick snow. I thought about it, and the last thing that crossed my mind was one of a long line in the world of famous last words.
"Fuck it," I said.
I backed up to Lightning, and saddled up. I locked my rifle in its scabbard and put the clasps on my pistol.
"Alright Lightning, just like on the farm. Ok boy?" I asked.
As loyal as ever, Lightning hopped around a little, his own way of saying 'fuck it'
"Hya Lightning!"
We took off running to the edge of the draw, holding tight to the reigns in one hand, and holding my hat with the other. Lightning jumped right at the edge of the draw, and we hung in the air for a solid 8 seconds before he cushioned us back to the ground and we slid all the way down the draw. We just barely stopped at the edge of the house, absolutely covered in snow.
"Good boy, good boy. I'll get you some treats as soon as I can buddy," I promised my horse.
I walked him back to the stable we'd built for 'em and then dusted myself off, seeing Antonio waiting on the porch.
"Two hours, and thirty-seven minutes ago was sunset cabrón." He said.
"I took a little detour," I said.
"I can tell," he said. "You find what you were looking for?"
As he asked that I turned and saw that damn owl sitting on the railing.
"Yeah... I think I did."
