It was a Wednesday, oh how I hate Wednesdays. It's not close enough to Friday to be excited for the weekend, but it is not close enough to Monday to feel like you have a fresh start. I get out of bed to pack for hockey practice when I hear my front door open.

"Bayley come down stairs please" My mom yells

I run down stairs as my mom is standing at the doorway talking to someone who is in a suit and looks very professional.

"Mr. Alinsky this is my daughter Bayley Turner" My mom says in a very nice tone

What is she on is all I can think about as I play along with her weird scheme.

"Nice to meet you" I put my hand out to shake his, he hesitates. His hands are dry and clammy, he looks me up and down with discussed in his eyes. Who does he think he is?

"Mr. Alinsky is here to give you a full scholarship to Eden hill Athletic Academy" Mom blurts out

My mouth drops open as I look at mom then to Mr. Alinsky then back to mom in total disbelief.

"You start January 1st if you accept " Mr. Alinsky says in a firm voice

"Thank you so much I accept"

"However, one last thing I should add you are going there as a figure skater so you will have to say goodbye to Hockey. We don't let our athletes compete in more than one sport. If we find out you do anything related to hockey from January 1st onward you will be withdrawn from the school, understood." Mr. Alinsky adds

And there is the but..

I look at my mom bitterly

Don't get me wrong I love figure skating, but it was my mom's thing before it was ever mine.

I want this, I'm excited but I don't want to leave my team...and Jen oh no how do I tell Jen. The Athletic Academy is in North Dakota, which is 18 hours away from here.

I zone out as my mom keeps talking to Mr Alinsky

"Bayley you need to get moving or you're going to be late" My mom says as Mr. Alinsky leaves our house

"Almost ready" I yell as I run to the kitchen to grab a banana and a water bottle

I run out to the car almost falling over as my bag pulls me down

"I'm not going to miss this rain" I say as I hop in and my mom starts the car

The 10 minute drive was nothing, the whole ride all I could think about was Jen and how was I going to tell her about North Dakota.

"HEY get out of your own world we are here" I hear my mom screech as I get out of my train of thought.

As I walk into the arena I can see Jen right at the front doors waiting for me practically jumping up and down

"BAY BAY" Jen yells as she runs to hug me almost making me fall over

"It's only been 1 week"

"Felt like a month, never ever leave me that long okay?"

"Jen I need.."

Before I could finish Evie comes up to us, very excited to see people again

"BAYLEY, how was your Christmas? Did you go skiing? My Christmas was boring, Im--"

"Fine, I did once, that sucks" I say interrupting her before she could say anything else

"Girls get moving" Our coach yells making me run to get into the dressing room

{After practice}

"I can't wait for provincials, we have such a good chance with you" Jen says as I untie my skates
