ALEXIS WAS never one to play nice. Especially around newbies.
Which is why she finds it shocking that her mother expects her to befriend the new girl, who she has no idea who she is. Who she knows nothing about. Except for the fact that she clearly doesn't know how to dress.
"But mom." Alexis stresses, following her mother who is pacing her room as she puts in a pearl earring.
She only gets a sigh from her mother, who refuses to face her daughter as she rushes to get ready. "Honestly, Alexis. It's not that big of a request. Just show the girl around, or I don't know, be nice to her? It's her first day, that's all."
This makes Alexis grind her teeth. She shakes her head, and the curlers in her hair threaten to fall off. She pays no mind to them, and only sits down on her mother's bed with her arms crossed.
"Mom, I have other friends to be with today. And extracurriculars to lead. And, I don't know, my own life? I mean, what will the students think when my friends and I befriend-"
"Who cares what the other students think? It's not like they stare at you all day, honey. Don't be so egotistical."
This shuts up Alexis, but not because of the last comment at her. None of the parents of her friend group know what shenanigans they get themselves into. Nor do they know just how much of a power struggle there is in the school between them and the faculty. If they did find out, surely all of them would be packing their suitcases for some boarding school in Germany or somewhere in Europe. And no German pancakes are worth the burden of a boarding school outside of their comfortable lives in Beverly Hills.
Their home lives and school lives are completely different, though revolve around each other. It's the perfect grades that bring smiles to their parents' faces, and the luxury and status their family gives them that allow them to walk the halls with no fear at all. There's a constant understanding between two realities. Don't intervene, and don't mix parents into it.
That's why bringing someone new into the group is not only discouraged, it's just wrong.
Alexis rolls her eyes, knowing this is a losing battle. She gets off the bed and storms off to her room.
Her mom trails after her, still trying to push an earring into her left ear. "Alexis, don't be like that. I'm only trying to get you to help."
Alexis only curtly nods at her mother, before she slams the door in her face. Had that been her father, she would have obeyed his request with a dutiful daughter's smile. But this is her mother. The woman who turns the other way to avoid her husband's affairs and children.
Signing, she falls to the floor against her door and rubs her face over her hands.
After her mini meltdown, she crawls over to her nightstand and pulls out her phone. Unlocking it and going to her messages, she immediately starts typing, her nails clicking against the screen.
Alexis: SOS!!!
Goddess L: What??
Alexis: remember that new girl from yesterday?
Goddess L: lmfao the one that put her dress in tar?
Alexis: YES! Anyways my mom is making me be friends with her or something.
She sees the small grey bubble, waiting for Lakshmi's reply, when her brother storms into her room. She looks up, scoffing and crossing her arms.
"Knocking, much?" She asks, and Dominique only rolls his eyes while he walks further into her room.
"Um, hello? Are you deaf? Get out!" She screams, and follows him as he begins to raid her bathroom. She only stares as he looks through her cabinets, before pulling out a green rectangle. Her eyes widen, and she lunges for it. Unfortunately for her, Dominique was blessed when it came to speed, and he quickly escaped his sister's advances.
