Chapter 56

I rinse my face clean with warm water. Refreshed wouldn't begin to describe the way I feel after endless pleasure and a goodnight's sleep.

With a light knock on the open door, Harry invites himself into the bathroom with me. After dabbing my face dry with a hand towel, I say, "Good morning."

Looking at me through the mirror, he gives me a tired smile. "Morning." His voice is groggy and he pats my ass to get me to step aside.

"Did you sleep well?" I ask him, stepping behind him as he begins to brush his teeth. Unable to give him space, I wrap my arms around his bare torso. When he hums in agreement, I kiss between his shoulder blades. I then stand on my tiptoes to kiss the back of his neck.

He then spits into the sink. "Really fucking good until your ex called."

Loosening my hold around him, I raise an eyebrow. I then look at the side of his face as he returns his toothbrush into his mouth again. "Matt called?" I ask before walking off with my tired legs to check for myself. I leave the bathroom and head for the phones on the nightstand.

Chewing on the inside of my lip, I watch the phone light up when it rings again. His familiar number appears on the screen and I'm quick to answer.

"Hello?"

"Jo, thank God."

"What? What's going on, Matt?" Needing to take a seat, I keep the phone pressed to my ear.

"I'm calling because this morning at the station, I was able to get some inside about what they have on you... Jo, this is serious. Apparently, you might have something to do with August's disappearance?"

Feeling my heart race in my chest, I watch Harry step out of the bathroom. With a frown on his face, he walks towards me.

"Jo... if you do or not, this isn't looking good. I'm only warning you because they asked how well I knew you. I told them that we dated but that you cheated on me."

"You told them what?" I cough out.

"If I would have told them the truth... they would've used that against you."

In frustration, I bring a hand to my face to rub. "Right," I mumble.

"I'll see what else they can tell me, but I mean it, Jo... Be safe."

"Hold on," I say as Harry sits next to me on the bed. "Who are you getting inside from?"

"Don't worry about it," he answers.

"Matt, I get it that you want to help me, but I don't want you getting mixed up in this mess."

"Jo, I have to go now."

"Matt—" I pause when I realize he hung up. I put the phone down, groaning over the complications piling up. Just like that, without even having time to soak in what a good night I've had with Harry, I'm dragged back to my reality.

"What happened?" Harry asks beside me with a hand running up and down my back.

When I look at him, all I want to do is be closer—feel closer. I straddle his lap and I'm invited into his arms. His hold is tight around my body as I settle on top of him. "Matt said that they think I have something to do with August's disappearance."

"Well they don't have proof of anything, so..." He whispers his assurance and after he plants a kiss on my shoulder, I pull back to look at him again.

"Is the gang that Matt was talking about... is it a part of the Infernos?"
